Dying slowly from the venom would be even worse

Yes, but dying from a venomous snake bite in the US is rare. Your odds are really good that you make it, with hospital frick ups due to inexperience being your main concern. If you have an allergy, your odds are slim.

1 in 600 rattlesnake bites result in death. This was definitely an aggressive reaction.

I'd say that pretty much everybody but a damn mongoose is allergic to snakebite.

Would you say that everyone is allergic to wasps, because it hurts and leaves a welt?

I wonder if he received anti venom? Cause that has been the cause of a lot of deaths from it’s sensitivity reactions?

It can go either way. My friend that got tagged by the Eastern diamondback last December had an immediate allergic reaction to the venom. though he had previous bites from a pygmy rattler (treated with antivenin) and a Trans-Pecos copperhead (untreated). Repeated exposure can make one more susceptible to allergic reactions.

Another friend recently got bit by a Trans-Pecos copperhead, and he had an allergic reaction to the antivenin. Had to be transferred to another hospital and was then treated with a different type of antivenin.

How did you manage to cut its head off with a knife safely? You pinned it down with a stick or something?

When someone dies quickly from a timber rattlesnake bite, its very likely that they just happened to be allergic to the venom.

I had a cousin that was bitten by a rattlesnake and damn near died from an allergic reaction to the anti-venom that they administered at the hospital.

Another guy I know got tagged by a small timber rattler a few weeks ago and went into a seizure. Had no localized swelling at the bite site, but had a seizure.

The name might have started as gulley and map makers weren't always all that careful about names.
I was over in Sequatchie Valley and looking for access to a particular rock outcrop.
The local farmer told me that wasn't the name of that Ridge, it was something that sounded like that but that the map was wrong. (He owned it so I guess he knew.)

Are you sure he had a seizure or did he just go into shock?

Stepped on it's head and chop chop. When I heard it and looked down it was right by my foot... I figured if I moved it might strike so I went for the head. I wanted to kill it before some other hiker walked by and got bit.
