I think CHS burned in '73 or '74

According to my dad, CHS students poured diesel fuel on the SPS field to burn a "CHS" on it during one of the previous couple of years. He likes to insinuate that the fire was a St. Paul's retaliation that they lost control of.

My grandfather was the first Veterinarian in the area. He would make house calls mostly in the Abita, Folsom, Covington area.. Went to a brick and mortar establishment and converted mostly to small animals after a donkey decided to dislodge a few of his ribs..

His family also were charter members and founders of the playmakers theater (I think down Lee Road).

I'll have to ask my dad about CHS burning down.. he graduated in '69.

I lived across the street from CHS when it burned and it was either 73 or 74. In short, evidently squirrels eating the insulation around the wiring supposedly caused the fire. The schools back then used Linseed oil for the floors because it didn't make the wood shrink and it was cheap. Unfortunately, it is also flammable. The school lit up like a starter log once the fire spread from the attic. My aunt and her friends were all in school at the time and were all crying as it burned. It is a pretty strong memory for me.

Here is one I remembered this morning. Lee Harvey Oswald lived in Covington briefly in his younger days. My uncle claimed he got in a fight with him once but I think he was full of shite on that one.

The "middle class raise a family" parish, fricking sucks for people in their 20's except for chimes and the few other good bars that exist

A now deceased relative told me that after they clear cut the Pine trees that you could see the Lake from Red Bluff.

You also had free range cattle and sheep that used to keep down the underbrush. My dad tells me about walking all over the countryside simply cutting through the woods because there was no underbrush. Folks also used to burn the woods more often.

There was some story written years ago about the ride through the woods on horseback between Covington and Franklinton. The guy wrote that due to the Pine straw and shade, that there was very little underbrush and very few birds or animals. The whole story was about how it creeped him out. This was before it was clear cut though.

The Red Bluff I'm referring to is between Covington and Folsom. I would say it is a good 8 miles from the Lake at a minimum.

The politicians wanted their cut and Disney told them to frick off... Probably the best thing politicians of La did...

Jayne Mansfield (1950's era sex symbol and mother of Law & Order SVU star Mariska Hargitay) died in a car accident in Slidell near the Highway 90 Bridge after leaving Biloxi en route to New Orleans.

The author Walker Percy lived and worked in Covington, LA and is buried outside of town on the grounds of St. Joseph Abbey. His office was on the second floor of his daughter's bookshop at 228 Lee Ln (now a French furnishings store).

The versions I've heard had it placed either in the Global Wildlife area near Robert or in Livingston Parish.

I've heard that about Disney, too. Thank God it didn't work out. It's okay to visit every now and then but I can't imagine living that close to all that shite.
