Don't buy a home that's on plaquemine power.
Why do you say this? I'd rather Plaquemine power (which they get from entergy) than out of city limits (that is either Entergy or Pointe Coupee)

When we first moved back from California, we moved to Brusly.
We had friends that lived in Plaquemine.
1970’s & 1980’s to today the town has lost its charm. They also had a hospital in the downtown area off LA-1 that is longer there.
What killed the Westbank vibe for me was the traffic on LA-1 and having to cross the Miss River Bridge or take the ferry.
At one time I believe the electricity for the City came from Lafayette and was more expensive than Entergy.
If the state ever completed 3125 from LA-415 to Interstate 310 and build another Miss River bridge around Plaquemine the town could grow again.

The Butcher Boy is the place to go for groceries. Just stay away around the first of the month when the welfare checks are delivered because it's packed there!

Not many. The CVS is the newest public store in town or at least looks like it

The "card shop" was the best spot ever made run by a bunch of carneys.
You talking about the one that was next to Fat Daddy’s by the tracks? If so, me and my friends used to spend so much time in there that the owner would let us run the shop on some weekends when he went do card shows. Paid us with packs of cards.
Growing up in Plaquemine 1980’s and 90’s was a lot of fun. A lot of memories made. Haven’t been back since my Mom’s funeral in 2016.
We saw the whole town on our bikes. Went fishing under the overpass by the locks.
Rode our bikes down the Cub Scouts track.
Played baseball and basketball at the park by the National Guard.
Played tackle football in the big open field by St John.
Everyone played spring/summer baseball for IPRD.
Butcher Boy was the grocery store to go to when it was in the middle of the neighborhood by the old school.
Acadian Festival was a lot of fun when it was by the old Sonic. We picked pecans to make “Acadian festival” money.
I could go on, but I really do cherish those days man. Now I live in Kenner not far from the Airport and it seems like everything is one big arse rush.

You must be talking about Walgreens.

You are correct. My apologies

Public schools suck like most do in Louisiana. St. John is a catholic school located in Plaquemine. My niece was going to MSA which is a public school and then moved to St. John this year. She seems to be doing a lot better now that she is out of public schools. Also if you plan on buying a house there make sure you are a good ways away from the railroad tracks that run through the middle of town because they roll through there 24/7. They haul arse and blow the frickin horn all of the way through town

Was the place to go.
It's a shite hole now that Ralph's owns it.

Thanks for all the info. Looks like Plaquemine is off the table for sure!

The restaurant at the Island is owned by the people who own The Grapevine in Donaldsonville, its pretty good
Grapevine is indeed very good…the restaurant at the island is terrible!
If grapevine was closer I would eat there at least once a month. I ate at the island once last month and never intend on going back.

I was also an 80’s/90’s kid in Plaquemine
“ Riding the avenue” was the only thing for us teenagers to do. And when you turned 18 there was Shannon’s. Both are gone now. There was City Cafe that’s now Beer Belly’s. It does still serve food. Fried bologna sandwich is pretty damn good.
My whole neighborhood took a bus to school in Baton Rouge.

I hear they have an amazing chicken sandwich which I will never try. I also won’t eat at Toms.
Heard the same, will never try either. I am convinced that place is a front for something.

Not a very clean place

Born and raised in Plaquemine. Now live in Addis, the town just north of Plaquemine. If you are considering this area, look into Addis and Brusly, both of which are in West Baton Rouge Parish. You can still work at the plants in Iberville Parish and the city of Plaquemine.

"Dickie's" was the bomb back-in-the-day. Everybody heading south to fish Bayous Pigeon and Sorrel and Lake Verrett stopped there to load up on supplies.

Its inconsistent. I really think it depends on who is working. Last time I was there I had the chicken parm and it was really good. One time, of all things, I had a hamburger that was undercooked.
