I agree, S. The skullduggery of some of these “posters” is inane.

That would be a shite long commute from Oak Grove to Laurel. It would be 70-80 miles per day and at least 45 minutes each way. frick that. Oak Grove is nice, but not if you're working in Laurel.

And anyone that thinks Oak Grove High School is the best in the state is living in the early 2000s. A lot has changed since then.

Laurel proper is not great, but like most towns in MS, people that work there often live in the country. If you like cheap land, low taxes, low cost of living, decent golf course and decent hunting/fishing it's not bad. If you like waiting in traffic, high taxes, high costs of living and living in the city then this is not the place for you.

West Jones and Stringer are decent schools, too.

I once knew a true gentleman from Cornell. He introduced me to equestrian husbandry and, without his guidance and pursuit, I would have missed out on a most peachy experience.

Ezeil’s Fish Camp is the nicest restaurant within 30 miles.

More like 90 miles if you are talking about Ezell's in Butler, AL

Yeah, don't live in laurel. Please. Dying town. Hattiesburg, ellisville, stringer, bay springs, are places to look into. If you like country living, The jones county area near bay springs would definitely make your dollar stretch.

Is Laurel the town that has the paper mill smell?

Was robbed at gunpoint in Laurel (of all places) at a gas station in October 1997.

Police caught the little booger next morning. He did time.

That's not a paper mill. Look to the east when you're traveling through Laurel. Those beautiful beaches along the interstate will clue you in on the smell.

this thread was a good read. lot of hate for the landmass. I have a ton of family out there so i'm familiar with most of what you all are talking about.

i have a cousin who just built a beautiful house and balling shop on 3.5 acres between Hattiesburg and Sumrall. If my line of work permitted me to do the same, aka if I could find a decent paying IT job in South Mississippi, i would do the same in a heartbeat.

I don't think it's that bad. But i'm burnt out on city life after a decade in Houston.

Not so much. I actually enjoy Hattiesburg and the coast and still go back to visit friends I made when I was stuckinMS and eat Leatha's every now and then.

Laurel, though...
