Some people deserve punishment. When you kill an innocent person in some a ridiculously stupid fashion, you cross that line IMO.

Jeez just rolling houses guys?
We would do that plus buy huge tubs of pancake syrup and pour them on people front porches, sometimes cars too. We'd syran wrap vehicles then pour oil on them. We'd throw old newspapers from behind garbage cans to cars speeding down the street

Society says they can’t make decisions well enough to enter into contracts or consume alcohol. What makes you think they’re capable of thinking through consequences of going on a joy ride and destroying property (not arguing right or wrong) and accidentally killing someone in the process.
Do you seriously think they thought throwing eggs would turn into someone chasing them, driver panicking and causing an accident?
I recognize the seriousness of a death and if it were my family member I would be hurt mad and who knows what. But putting some kids away for life won’t fix it.

At 14, I was mature enough to realize stealing my parents' car and driving it down the road throwing eggs would be a monumentally stupid idea. I'm not special, and it's why most 14 year old kids also don't steal their parents' cars for joy rides.
Which means that 14 year old new exactly what the frick he was doing. Lock his arse away.

Prison isn't just about rehabilitation man.
It's also about punishment and deterrent and there are some crimes that are just either so evil or so reckless that an example needs to be made out of it.
This crime qualifies as such as it was absolutely senseless, stupid and so careless it's close to evil.
