Journalists often get criticized, but credit to this reporter for giving us a pretty solid summary of the events in the first two sentences.

Yeah, there's a lot of weirdness here.
Burglarizing the home of people you don't know, in the middle of the day, in rural Mississippi?
I get it, criminals are dumb, but they're generally smart enough to know that burglarizing a random house in a rural area has a very high risk to reward ratio, and that the odds are pretty good that if the homeowner is at home, he's going to have access to a gun.
Why rob this particular house? Why not scope out the house to see if anyone's home first? Why kill both people in the house instead of running away? Was the burglary interrupted? Why stay in the home after killing the victims?
I doubt cordarious has two brain cells to rub together so I'm not even surprised at the time of day of the robbery. But how in the world did the family members suspect somethign may be wrong, call the police, and have the police get to the house...all in the amount of time where the robber was still there? What made the family call the police in the first place? You'd think it'd have to be at least a day of not getting answered before you think somethign might be off.
and ftr, I'm not hinting at any weirdness on the family's part or antyhhing. Just trying to understand how this all went down so quick

Wonder if there was some kind of alarm or Life Alert type button situation?

The first two rules of burglary are that you only rob houses that you know have something valuable inside, and you don't rob houses while the people who live there are at home. Even the dumbest criminals know that. I guess this one was just that stupid and reckless?
Or did he have some reason to believe that there was something valuable in the home?

I miss the days when it was an automatic death sentence to shoot or kill a cop

From what I can gather online, it seems the couple was in town and came home while the burglary was in progress, so it's possible they called someone prior to going into the house.
It seems like they owned a tire shop at one time but had since retired and were very loved and respected in the community. The woman played the piano at their church.

because he's a black TPOS teen with zero sense, morality, or responsibility.
This happens repeatedly everywhere and you act shocked at the brutality and senselessness of it all? You live under a rock?
Did the mall shooting back in May make any sense? You know exactly what you area dealing with, yet you feign bewilderment at his actions.
You are either disingenuous or retarded.

Edgy.
Tell me, just for giggles, I don't worship Donna T (unlike you, and you're probably basing your "moderate" and "prog" labels on that, so that's why I make that reference) and think he's a petulent child, but also think this person should be executed.
What does that make me (come up with something more than cuck/soy/lib prog/etc). TIA.

Criminals rob homes every day, and most of the time they don't get caught because they know which houses to target and when to break in.
If, as Sidewalk posted, the victims were known to be better off than most people in the community and they interrupted the burglary in progress, then that answers most of the questions about why this went down the way it did.
