They aren’t smart when it comes to basically anything

This is the sad reality of what kids are doing these days.

Determining factor here.

If it is a private school, this case should have been thrown out already.

It's a public school

Interestingly enough, at one point their nickname was almost Chinese Bandits

quote:

The Mahanoy Area School District was not always one school. At one time there were three schools; the Mahanoy City School, the Mahanoy Township school and the Gilberton High School. Two schools were located in Mahanoy City, and had their own sports teams. The three schools eventually merged into one school to become the Mahanoy Area School District.

The first superintendent for the joint school district was Dr. Frank Burrock. The school nickname and colors were to be selected in the school’s first year. Possible candidates for the schools nickname were The Black Knights, The Chinese Bandits, and The Golden Bears. Along with the nickname, the school colors also had to be selected. Mahanoy Township’s school colors were purple and gold, and Mahanoy City’s school colors were maroon and black.

I'm not sure there is a worse set of unelected bureaucrats than public school administrators. She should absolutely win this case.

Then full steam ahead.

Hopefully, they rule in her favor, but Scruffy has zero faith in the Supreme Court.

No public school should have the ability to police what students say or do outside of school.

This thread is going to be full of people agreeing with the ACLU. An OT rarity.

If the ACLU was true to its mission, I would agree with them nearly 100 percent.

They aren't, and I don't.

They are like Planned Parenthood and ANTIFA.

Intentionally misleading names that do the opposite of what they are supposed to.

Welcome to real life, kid. Employers are holding employees responsible for things they posted before they were even hired.

She's a kid in school, not an employed adult.

Public schools are not their employers.

Also, the vast majority of public entities do not punish their employees for statements made outside of work.

If they want to hold public school students to these standards, Scruffy would like to see public employees fired more often.

Would actually like to see that anyway.

How so?

Isn't it a double standard to say businesses can fire employees for shite they do and say off the clock but a school can't do the same for it's clubs?

Why is it dumb for the school to have a policy for participation in extra curricular activities that limits social media?

Aren't we trying to teach people how to navigate the world? What would happen to an employee who made a post such as the one made by the young woman?

If she were not in an extracurricular activity, she may exercise her right to free speech with impunity

Because that's a parent's job not a schools job. What they deem as unacceptable behavior is not what parents may deem unacceptable Behavior. Nor made the parents agree with the severity of the punishment.

A schools job is to teach facts; science, math, history, civics, not Behavior, Culture, taste, Etc

Do you want to raise your kids or do you want School teachers to raise your kids?
