No, it's not. A business is not a public school, and vice versa.

Private school, absolutely.

This wasn’t a private school.

Now, if you would like to discuss the rights of public employees, a different group, ISO, we could do that too.

Because you don't understand the difference between private/public. A private business can do whatever it wants as a condition of employment.

Because it's private.

Public institutions serve the public and the rights within these institutions are the same as your rights in any other public spaces.

Absolutely ridiculous to have arbitrary rules imposed by school administration apply to your life entirely until you leave school. Forget executive branch overreach, now teachers and administrators are dictators?

This is my position. Not sure why the government turds can punish you for protected speech. I thought we resolved all this way back in the 80's and 90's?

I see I’m getting downvoted to hell but whatever. Parents need to teach their kids that posting shite online WILL bite them in the arse.

It’s like being pissed at your parents, going to your room and muttering under your breath. You can probably get away with that.

But insult your parents where they can hear you and you bring the hammer down.

It’s not even about right or wrong really, it’s about what you can get away with in what situation.

I don't think anyone necessarily disagrees with this. The issue at hand is that a public school is in no position to punish a child for remarks made outside of school.

Not sure I want to hear the answer to this question from the general public.

Key word is Parents.

I get what you are saying though but a public school shouldn't have that kind of power.

The kid was dumb for doing it but it shouldn't have resulted in her being kicked off the team.

Punishment is way too harsh.

You already see it happening now to some extent but imagine in the next few decades when all the people running for political office or becoming famous are people who completely grew up with social media. You’ll have someone running for governor at age 45 but people will dig up something dumb they said or did at age 16.

Kids have always done cringe shite but now that cringe is on board cast for the whole world to see.

The Snap itself self-deleted in a short period of time, but one of her teammates took a screenshot.[8] One of those teammates was the daughter of one of the coaches, who had herself been suspended from cheering at a few games after she had posted disparaging remarks online about another school's cheerleading squad's uniforms.[11] By the time school resumed for the following week, the screenshot had been widely shared among students, especially the cheerleaders. Some who had seen it came to the cheerleading coaches "visibly upset" by the Snap[12] over the next few days.[6] At the end of the week one of the coaches pulled B.L. out of class to inform her that she was suspended from cheerleading for the next year as a result of her Snap.[5] B.L.'s parents appealed the suspension to the school board, which upheld it.[9]

Snitches get stitches

And LOL at being visibly upset over that post.

I agree but this isn't the government's job. If parents want to be dumb asses, more power to them.

I'd rather tend to the inconveniences of too much freedom than the inconveniences of too little. Or something like that. One of many quotes I frick up all the time.

Maybe your parents. Everybody parents differently.

You don't have a right to a job provided to you by somebody else's hard work. What makes you think this? You're not entitled to a livelihood. It's your job to provide that for yourself.
