Find a different school. This may be all you need. If you find a new school and feel rejuvenated, hang with it a little while longer.
My first school was great. Awesome faculty and admins, plus the parents had your back.
I had to leave that job due to becoming married. And the second school damn near put me in AA and almost made me switch careers.
Third school was awesome, young faculty and decent admins. However, I had a job offer I couldn’t refuse and changed careers.
Guess what, this job has shitty days just like teaching. Grass is rarely greener, even if the money is better.

I've switched a few times and am at a great school now. Poverty is every where. I really feel for these poor kids whose parents just don't care for them.
I was just having a shitty day yesterday. It's all good. Thanks everyone who gave actual advice.

I second this, I coach and am at school almost every day during the Summer at 630am. Not to mention late nights well beyond normal hours away from your family, burnout is a real thing. Best of luck.

Go do something else if you can. Teaching sucks. You'll never have a position to be promoted to, you'll never get a raise, the kids will always be stupid

Go into the administration side of it. You still have to deal with kids, but you won't be teaching them or working with them as often. You can also still have an impact on their future.

As I stated earlier, I'm 22 years in. I would never advise any young person to pursue a career in education, especially today. Students are mainly unmotivated to achieve because they don't have to. There is basically no accountability demanded from students or parents. If you're at a school with high parent involvement, count yourself lucky. As someone stated earlier, you'd better make your mind up as quickly as you can whether or not it's for you if you do start teaching.

I'm tired of hearing this from teachers. You get summers, christmas, spring break, fall break... did I leave any out???
I'm an ABA therapist (behavioral therapist specializing in Autism). ABA therapists deal with the most difficult kids, most of which have been kicked out of schools because they can't manage them. I still have cuts, bruises, and bites from assisting with one kid a few days ago. We get 3 recognized holiday days a year.
So yea... I'd love to talk about burnout. Rant over... downvote button is in the bottom right corner... thank you

Meh any marketing job will work past normal working hours.
shite im an Engineer and sometimes clock over 55+.
I have to be available 24/7.

All of this. Parents are the biggest problem. A lot of parents of public school students see school more like a daycare where the kids go and the parents do whatever during the day. The undesirable behaviors kids have are either not discouraged or, worse, the kids are just copying parents. When the kids are home there is often either no discipline (and the kids are difficult to control at school) or there is abusive discipline (and, surprise, the kids end up being abusive too).
It's doubly frustrating because most of us know people who would give their world to conceive a child to raise and then we see parents with multiple kids who they don't give a damn about. It's frustrating to see that there's only so much one (teacher or any other nonparent) can do to improve a kid's happiness and outcome without parental support.
OP, live for the success stories of the students you are able to reach. Other fields face similar problems. Doctors deal with noncompliance and med check visits. Lawyers deal with BS lawsuits. There's all the mess working for any city agency. OT has a story of a nonprofit wasting money (happens a lot). The service industry has its own problems too. And so on. I'm not saying you should stay in teaching or not, just that you're not alone thinking the grass is greener on the other side. On the positive side of teaching, the kids you are able to change also improve the lives of other people.

haha sure can seem that way some days. It's a lot of up and down.... the lows are soul crushing to the max... the highs are unreal. I did this willingly..I just wonder why some days.
