Guess my parents were lame AF, they never did this.

Lots of my friends take their kids out of school for a week to go to Disney, beach, even hunting.

I’ll do a half a day on Friday if my kids have Monday off. My in-laws do multiple multi day trips a year.

well the school will probably cancel classes anyway if there is a thunderstorm in the forecast, so no biggie. (Public)Schools are noting but a babysitting service anyway.

I am a teacher, and I encourage it. Your kid will learn far more language and vocabulary wise on vacation than they will in a week of school. Also, no one remembers what happened the first week of October in 3rd grade. They do remember trips with their parents.

To me it depends on the grade. We took my daughter out of school for a week in 1st grade to go to Disney for Halloween.

Now that she's in 6th grade, no way in hell that's happening.

The other option is only going on vacations at the crowded times everyone else tries to go. I plan to take mine out of school for Disney trips and the like.

for kids in 1st grade and under, i don't care.
Anything beyond that, there's no reason for your kid to not be at school unless they have the flu/strep or they are throwing up.

There are plenty of holidays and the entire frickin summer to go on vacation.
New flash, doesn't matter if you go to Disney World in January, April, July or October, it's going to be crowded as frick.

My parents would take me out of school for a week for vacation every year in elementary school.

I will do it till I die. Beach and Disney are FAR better in the offseason.

I take myself out of work for vacation. I don't see much difference.

We did a couple of times when they were younger, but they miss so much classwork now, neither would want to because of all the catch up work they'd have.

We only did it for a day or two for long weekends. Never did a full week.

My kids go to public school; they're not missing anything more valuable than a family vacation.

I did this when my daughter was in daycare. They threatened to kick her out if we did it again. They were worried about having to give some of their VPK money back to the government.
