Wife's cousin had the reception in the most broken down VFW hall I'd ever seen. Catering was bad Chinese food from a low-class local dive.

We were asked by the mother of the groom (wife's uncle) afterward to help her clean up to save a $50 deposit.

I said Adios, and dragged the wife out with me.

To spice up the thread

Here is a pic of the mother in law

She is now single now. Her husband divorced her two months after the wedding.

That makes the awful, basically Baptist wedding I attended sound amazing!

I was raised a South Louisiana Catholic. First Baptist wedding I went to was a relative from North Louisiana when I was about 13.

The ceremony was like 15-20 minutes, and I was like, "SCORE! This rocks!" Got to the reception and there was 1 bowl of punch and little pieces of cake. No music. Definitely no booze of any kind.

People started leaving after 15 minutes or so. Blew my fragile little Catholic-Full-Mass-9-hour-reception mind.

The flower girl stood up with us bridesmaids and she started peeing on herself. Like seeped down her stockings onto the floor I guess she thought she had to stand up there with us no matter what so she wasn't risking going to the bathroom and getting in trouble.

My favorite wedding was when the groom, nervous as a groom should be, had too many beers before the ceremony and he had to actually stop the ceremony (it was too long anyway), leave his bride by herself at the alter, and go take a piss. If he hadn't, he was looking like he might've done what your flower girl did. Don't get married when you're 19.

Otherwise, it was a perfectly nice wedding, and amazingly enough, they're still married.

Only one comes to mind, and it is a classic LP wedding. I'll sum it up

Groom and sister hated each other. Sister wasn't invited, but showed up to the reception anyhow with a handful of meth heads. Next thing you know, a meth head was hit over the head with a chair WWE style, and shite went crazy. A friend of mines dad hit a guy with brass knuckles and split him wide open. Blood was flying, i'm sure filled with hepatitis and everything else you can imagine. It eventually stopped after the cops arrived. This was before the reception really started, so all the old people were there too. Terribly embarrassing, yet entertaining

, I had a cousin get married in Gibson. My uncle's farm was right on the banks of Bayou Black. They had the ceremony at the Catholic Church and the reception was in my uncle's side yard or small pasture. It was in the Fall and it was one of those glorious South Louisiana Fall days of bright sunshine, temps around 70, and light breeze. They had cans of beer and soft drinks iced down in metal tubs, a roast pig, fried chicken and fish. There was a Cajun band with accordion and fiddle. The Cajun dancing went on into the night.

I dont know what you have to pay to order perfect weather but it sounds worth it. That sounds perfect.

I am a north La Baptist, I am married to a S La Catholic. I have seen it all, but I would not call any of them trashy.

I have seen a few where the venue was not perfect or the weather turned to shite and things were kinda uncomfortable but never just a bad time.

Why in the world would your friend's dad have brass knuckles at a wedding?

500 bar tab takes half, tuxedos, dress priest, pics, cake, flowers....the other 500 would go pretty quick

Once walked into a wedding being held in an exxon once. I thought it was a skit until they asked me to hurry up and leave.

I was the best man in my buddies wedding. We were young and the wife was from Missouri and not wealthy at all. The church was beautiful. I decided to drink a half bottle of crown. I’m sweating fricking bullets.

Fast forward to the reception at a shitty lions club. By this point I’m hammered drunk, but keeping it together. Now keep in mind my buddies folks were paying for all of this. I don’t think they approved, but they also weren’t gonna drop big money. It was beer and wine. 1 keg. It’s floated within an hour. I leave and go get a few cases and some bottles of bourbon and champagne. The wife’s family in true trash fashion starts murdering my booze. Drank it all.

Next thing you know they get the Dj to put on heavy metal and start dancing all weird. It was horrible. Old people shaking their heads. I was drunk so I just laughed. They divorced within a year. His second wedding was much nicer and with a classy broad.

Maybe it was the Valdez family. They have a lot of history at that place.

the drive there was about 35 minutes. No bus or shuttle or anything so we were to fend for ourselves as far as transportation.

This was an issue for you? I’d rather drive my own vehicle as opposed to riding a damn bus or shuttle any day.

Most people enjoy drinking at weddings, so having to drive 30+ minutes back to the hotel room in an unfamiliar place kinda puts a damper on that.

The only wedding I've been to in recent years that didn't have a shuttle is one where the vast majority / all guests were locals and the reception venue was about 2 miles from the church.

It's pretty standard in my experience to have a shuttle take guests from the designated hotel to the ceremony, reception and then back to the hotel
