I'm not saying you can't but it isn't open water either. The current in that river is treacherous plus the shite floating in that river could ruin your swim. It's not uncommon to see entire trees floating down the river. Plus all the barge traffic. Again, I don't know you so I can't speak on your ability but this isn't swimming lake ponchatrain or false river. It is ALIVE..

She swam across from basically the canal street ferry to Algiers point. There is a considerable upriver eddy right there that intensifies during high river. That is probably what kept her from being pushed any further down river

Dog, any swimmer crossing is also 'floating downriver' at the same rate the debris you mention.

So, the success rate is 1%?

The success rate of climbing Mount Everest is 29%.

I have a feeling my odds of making it across the Mississippi River is a little better than the odds of climbing Mount Everest.

Where are you getting your 4.3 mph? Right now it’s almost 6 mph way down at Carrollton

You would never make it past the undertow.

This is for Belle Chasse. I searched for Baton Rouge, but this was the first thing that came up and I just use that data. LINK

The answer to the first part is "it doesn't matter"

The answer to the second part is "the morgue"

Dog, that is true in a vacuum or lab environment. I'm not going to give you a physics lesson on why and where that isn't true most of the place and most of the time throughout your "swim" but just know it isn't.

Swim across the river
Just to prove that I'm a man
Spend the day being lazy
Just being nature's friend.

Climb a long tall hickory...

Here ya go, Boss. This only goes to 40’ and the BR gage is at 44’ right now. I can also assure you that it’s nearer the max velocity and not the mean. Good luck.
