Swimming across the Miss River in Baton Rouge

1. Could you make it?
2. Where would you start and what is your expected finish point?

====================
1. Yes.
2. I would start on the West side, behind the Placid Refining Company in Port Allen. And try to finish just above the USS Kidd in downtown Baton Rouge.
My thinking on this:
At the current water level, straight across from the levee in Port Allen to the levee in Baton Rouge is 0.66 miles.
Swimming this distance at 2 mph would take about 20 minutes.
However, there's no way to swim straight across with the speed of the water. The speed of the water is about 4.3 mph.
According to this map tool, at 4.3 mph the water will carry me 2.09 miles downstream in about 29 minutes.
So trying to swimming straight across at 2 mph, with a couple breaks, I should reach the other side just under 30 minutes.

Adalida, I'd walk through the hurricane
To stand beside ya sweet Adalida I'd swim the Ponchartrain

You’d get hit by a Barge or just simply drown

Give you my left nut and half my pay checks for life if you can do it in however much time you need. Don’t limit yourself to just thirty minutes. But it doesn’t count if you uh, “float” to the other side.

2. Gulf of Mexico

Are you banking on whatever shite is in that water killing the ‘rona?

That chick who did it in N.O. this last fall was pretty impressive.

Some crackhead in Nola did it a few years ago. Not sure about the current or distance where she crossed.

I’m positive you couldn’t do it. Better question, could Michael Phelps do it?

Clear of a barge hitting him absolutely.
99.9 % of ppl drown with a quickness however.

99% of people wouldn’t make it

No but I’m not stupid enough to try. What’s the reward?
Posted on 4/15/20 at 10:36 pm to Langland
I did it 11 years ago. It was not not easy. I couldn’t do it now.

Please attempt this and have someone record it. I have to imagine it's not as easy as your estimates. You won't go near that fast. In fact, until you get 2/3 of the way, you'll be dead slow with the river trying to push you into the bank. But I'd sure like to see it... at least until you went under for the last time.

Couldn’t do it in Baton Rouge. Could probably do it in Minnesota

I used to swim in it when I was little on the sand bars around Natchez. Still got my skin. I’m pretty dumb now though.

I attempted but I couldn't find the thread.
