Similar to a great aunt of mine who had some psych issues. We found out that she sent the lion’s share of inheritance money my grandfather left her to that old corrupt hooker lover.
To anyone in this thread singing Swaggert’s praises, congratulations. You’ve been brainwashed.

Did you include siphoning millions off of of the vulnerable? How about living a lavish lifestyle off of that money?

In a related story, many North BR hookers filed for unemployment benefits today.

I've done worse than Swaggart. Anybody else want to throw their two cents in? Swaggarts issues were child's play. I was a Hellion.
Most or this board has been a hypocrite, backbiter, slanderer, etc. in some way or another. But they gonna beat up a man for being a man. That's why we need Jesus, folks.
Sure but I'm not up here calling myself a man of God or telling people how they should live their lives. If I was I'd hold myself to those same standards.

Jimmy Swaggert, Mickey Gilley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and my late FIL. All cousins who grew up in Ferriday and have left this earth. My FIL was pretty crazy in his youth. Got expelled from Cathedral Carmel in the 7th grade for flushing an M80 and was sent to St. Stanislaus for boarding school. Attended USL, graduated from Loyola Law School and eventually succumbed to Alzheimer's several years ago.

WWJD. Hang out with prostitutes. Just following in his footsteps.

There are two things at play here the best I understand.
1. The house is probably a parsonage, and is considered a housing allowance and is not counted toward a minister's taxable income (cost does not matter, whether it is a multimillion dollar home for a mega church pastor or a single wide trailer for a rural small church pastor).
2. The pastor as an individual has to pay SS taxes like anyone else on all his earnings, unless he has chosen to not participate in Social Security with his MINISTERIAL earnings. Some pastors opt to reject and others choose to pay SS taxes, so it depends on the individual.
So at the end of the day, he did not do an end around in regards to taxes. Rather, he probably took advantage of the tax laws as they pertain to churches and clergymen, and rightly so.

He was caught in 1988 and again in 1991 for solicitation of prostitution.
So, you're correct in saying one mistake as in one mistake after another.

I didn't say it was illegal. Sometimes there's a difference between legal and right. Members of the clergy living in multimillion dollar estates while syphoning tithes from lower or middle class people and utilizing loopholes to evade taxes are certainly not doing anything righteous.

Yep...don't hate the people who take advantage of the laws as they are written. If it pisses you off, then work to change the laws.
I've lost the score card on who are Trump supporters or haters around here. But to those who do support him.....were you as hard on Trump and his moral sins as you were on Swaggart...or your own moral sins? And...curious, how do you react when someone judges you?
Disclosure before anyone comes at me....I'm 100% full blown Trump supporter.

Obviously we have a bunch of perfect people here. At least enough to be judgmental.

I'm guilty. That's what repentance is for. Paul (Saul) was a bad man who admittedly couldn't do right although he wanted to. He taught whole populations about Jesus.
