That is exactly what a boxer was bred for.

Get a blue heeler. They're way smart and built like a fire plug.

Weimaraner

Big but not too big

Majestic. Get so many compliments when I walk mine.

Would follow you off a cliff

Docile and gentle around little ones

Has a bark that would scare off any intruder

Big and courageous enough to protect you if need be (used to hunt bears in Germany)

And secretly half brain dead and full of energy

Like a mentally handicapped Brad Pitt of a dog that unconditionally loves you and wouldn't question itself to die for you if need be

The. Perfect. Dog.

There's a reason they were reserved for German royalty back in the day.

Americans literally stole a pair from Germany and smuggled them out of the country so we could have them here.

Doberman

Great family dogs and guardians, very bright, love to be with their people, easy to train, very protective of the home. Weimaraners are crazy, have been around a lot of them. Border collies, Australian sheps, etc take a lot of training and exercise. Cattle dogs have very high work drives, don't if they would be a good choice without a job. I love my AmStaff mixes, too, but they tend to be very people friendly no matter that the prejudiced people want to claim. Dachshunds are pretty cool, like a small short legged Dobe, very protective of the home and some have fierce dispositions but they are ankle biters so to speak.

Get a Doberman pinscher. They are not aggressive but very protective. They like to follow their owners in the house and be able to keep an eye on them. If you want to adopt check the gulf states Doberman rescue group.

There is no other breed to consider than a dachshund. Once you get one, you will quickly realize that you need a second one.

We will have 5-8 Doberman puppies ready in early October. The parents act like a jungle gym for my 2 year old daughter but are awesome home protectors.

I love my American Foxhound.

I don't have any kids, but when we go for walks and kids ask to pet him he is very calm and gentle. And he will bark and howl at anything that goes by the house.

We have Chocolate Lab if any stranger ever comes to our house, they're in big trouble. He'll make them play fetch with him and lick their face for hours.

I have 2 boxers they are great with children and all around goofy ,but trust me they will let you know if something is not right and will protect you at and your family at all costs. These dogs however are active dogs you have to exercise them regularly. They are smart ,but can be stubborn. My female is 58 lbs and my male is 56 lbs and typically they are in between 50 and 70 lbs. I highly recommend them if you are active.
