It's for the teachers, they work so hard they need to get off early in the day. School holidays and being off all summer isn't enough.

Lol if you really think our kids measure up to China and Japan, etc... our kids are too busy drinking, smoking, and having sex to be up for no stinking school at 7 am

You're right we need to shoehorn more kids into those physics and calculus courses they don't give a crap about because they are smart enough to realize 97% of them will never use a single thing they "learned" ever again the second they finish the final exam.

I took AP as well (no zero period) and played sports but I didn't have a problem. If they are having a problem then they aren't cut out for AP or they need to drop the sport. You don't have to do everything. If you can't handle it, pick which one is more important to you and drop the other. I think AP is probably more important but you can get into LSU and many other schools without AP.

For me, high school classes started at 7:07 am exactly...which meant getting up at 5:45-6.
To get 8 hours of sleep, I'd have to go to bed at 10 pm. That never happened ever. I feel like I'm permanently sleep deprived thanks to that.
I also first noticed dark circles under my eyes when I was 16 that are now there 24/7. Thanks high school!

Sports also teach social skills, which is probably more useful than taking Chemistry or Physics. How many of these high schoolers will actually use that knowledge?

I would imagine with new technology, the fundamental ways that school is taught today will change within 20-30 years. Kids may have more options in taking classes at their own pace, and going to school or class for extra help if needed.
All kids learn in different ways and during different times in their lives. Future education should take that into account to provide more options for advancement, self learning and help when needed by the teacher.

I agree but if technology replaces social interactions this world is going to be terrible. Going to class/school with friends was awesome times.

They need to push middle and high school back but they never will. I am a teacher and some of my students have to be out at the bus stop by 5:15 to catch their bus. Which means they have to be up at 4:30 to eat and get ready. No middle or high school kid wants to be in bed by 8:30.

Let's not forget that due to that judges order in BR kids don't have neighborhood schools. They have to get on a bus at 5am then transfer to a central bus stop then take the bus to school. Totally fricked up.
