I don't know if you saw it or not, but Philippe posted that the 149 wasn't a sustained wind measurement. The way the anemometer used is set it does "Instantaneous Measurements" and doesn't average over any length of time. Both the 172 and the 149 will be stated in reports as gusts

Ah.

Weird misreport because it was the port's met officer who sent the report. He should have known that.

The gust of 178 though, probably isnt happening if you dont have sustained near 150.

I just want to thank all the little people who helped me get where I am today......

Nah. I'm just glad this place exists and we all can use it. I've followed weather forever, and would be doing it whether I posted here or not. I learn something in every one of these threads, and I'm thankful for that. My first post on TD was a weather thread about April 27, 2011. If you take away my posts in weather threads, I'd lose probably 75% of them.

I just hope everyone can put the pieces back together, and use this place for the good it can provide.

Man GI doesn’t look that bad. They must build those houses like a brick shithouse

Every dang big hurricane, we all say this is it, they're done after this one. And I swear every single one, it never looks as bad as we thought it would be in GI

I think a lot of places got lucky Ida only blew up in the last 12-24 hours, this made the storm surge less than Katrina. While that’s good news, the bad news is a similar storm could do a lot worse next time.

I agree, and the NHC may look at it that way in the final report. We'll have even more from chasers, I'm sure. With as many people around the Galliano and Houma areas, I think they're going to have some pretty big readings.

It had a decent couplet on it the last time I looked. Kind of surprising that it is going so long.

Boat knows his shite and is working on becoming a met. He just doesn't throw his opinions/observations out as freely as some of us.

It doesn't appear so from the pics we are seeing. You can tell there is some significant erosion in areas, though.
