We've had 5 hours of daylight and have concluded that it will be 21 days to get power back to an entire parish.

I'm sorry but I just don't buy into this.

Let's be smart people. It's going to take time. We don't know how much time just yet.

The issue will be shortage of materials needed

I wouldn't count out anything regarding that woman.

Plan on power being out for 3+ weeks
There are many thousands of outside electrical workers and equipment staged ready to respond. It's amazing just how quick these folks can repair an electrical grid.

Does anyone have an update on the Hammond-Ponchatoula area…haven’t heard from some of my people since last night and they’re all with AT&T..

Same here. Last I talked with my parents was last night around 10 and they were already dealing with multiple trees down in their yard, but nothing on the house. One tree took the powerline down that runs by the road.

From what I've seen on Facebook from friends is bad. Downtown Ponchy near Paul's looks wrecked. Talking with a friend in Hammond, trees are down everywhere.

I think that is going to be an issue with this particular rebuild (all aspects of it from electrical infrastructure to home repairs) that we haven't seen as big of an impact from in the past.

I think the water works but use by all people could overload the fragile state of the system and cause backups into homes

Here to Serve link

He won't say it or ask BUT you can make donations through this link. Did it a few days ago and I personally feel blessed that this storm stayed away from us BUT am so sad for those that it did affect. It's one small way of helping how you can.

So is everyone in NO gonna start pooping in their front yard since the sewage pumps are offline?

Several folks with power in Baton Rouge, but not my family. Live around the lakes.

Any idea on timeline there yet?

Can't as bad as Nola considering the relatively smaller amounts of damage and so many people still with it. Figured it isn't as catastrophic.

TIA

YouTube drone footage of Braithwaite
SIAP

Shows damage to the levee. Looks to be up to 5 or 6 feet of water in some spots. Not good.

After Katrina, we were told to go in plastic bags and throw out in the trash.

Exactly what I just said.

If anything annoys the crap out of me during these events, it’s doomer wishcasting. Especially people in areas that ended up totally fine, like most of BR.

Especially when people like Who_Dat_Tiger have real damage.

Thanks for all of your kind words. Chance and my wife Emily. Our baby’s name is Renée. We have a page my wife has kept updated with my baby’s progress for the past 3 months. I’m typically very reserved and not a sharer. We have hundreds of people who’ve been praying for us though and we have a lot of support at home that will help us through this but at this point if anyone wants to follow the story and add to the prayers I can’t turn that down.

Here’s a link to our daughters story we’ve kept updated with our story Rally for Renée

I know this is entirely premature but my dad was just called to work. He and others will be bringing water in Vac trailers to the hospital(s) in Houma. They’re meeting at Lafayette Airport and being escorted by LSP to Houma. Any word on road conditions? Im sure I know the answer to that already but was just trying to help ease his mind. Thanks.

Prayers to everyone in the path. Us folks in Acadia parish missed this go round but we remember everyone’s willingness to lend a hand for Laura and Delta.

Can they not get a crew to get out there and give it a good scrape and painting every couple years? Jeez

It is even easier than that now. They have spray-on/brush-on rust neutralizers/inhibitors. Once it is dry you just paint over it.

That said, they have a standard for when and how that work is done. That doesn't it isn't ignores like alot of other stuff, though.
