The historic building on South Rampart that housed the Karnofsky pawn shop, where a young Louis Armstrong was employed in the 1910s, has collapsed under the strain of #HurricaneIda

Looks more like it exploded, based on the debris. Look at the car and light pole to the right.

No doubt. My grandfather and his family are from Nola and owned a couple of bakeries that I’m hoping are still standing. Sorry for the misunderstanding, brother

Yeah. You see the workers who are currently on the clock now? Those should have been the only ones considered “essential” during covid

Tomorrow and for the next few days/weeks, i dont want you to complain at all about restaurants or stores being closed and you not being able to get what you want.

Those employees will be going through the same shite as you, but expected to also provide people with service with no gratitude given.

Well we are an essential department. We understand that when a storm comes and if we are either at the yard or the designated shelter that we are getting paid.... because once it lets up we are balls to the wall...

We were told to be at the yard around 11 am... then told basically 'half' of the crew would be on the clock and the ot'half' wouldn't start getting paid until around 6-7 p.m. but they couldn't leave... not sure if I explained it enough... but this type of thing has never happened this way...

Hopefully the very worst will end for New Orleans in the next hour or two.

My sister and BIL are there. It's bad, but so far no major damage. They aren't out of the woods yet. Ida ain't in no hurry.
Thanks. Last we heard was them posting Our Fathers on Facebook about six hours ago (which, to be fair, is not unusual for a Sunday evening).

State of LA is about to have to start a homeowners' insurance company. what could go wrong?

They did it for workers' comp insurance with LWCC. It runs pretty well.

I think that wall fell towards that car and the bricks scattered once it hit.

Would this be the same as the metal high-tension power pole towers?

That’s what I’m picturing. Lost a bunch during Laura here last year and they took a while to put back
