Probably not. An EWRC would halt ongoing strengthening, but it would likely maintain what intensity it has, particularly this close to landfall.
Not an EWRC.. eye is closed off again

I was replying in the context of the prior posts.

After Michael, entire pine forests in the panhandle were snapped at about 20 feet. It was freaky, and could be seen from space.
Can still be seen from I-10 east of Marianna, around the Apalachicola River. And that is 100 miles inland.

All this talk of an eyewall replacement cycle, but I don’t see it in radar. The secondary ring isn’t remotely closed.

Laura snapped pine trees like it was nothing all the way up through Leesville

There's no fricking way I'd be driving around in that hunk of shite he's driving now in this storm. Hell, it was on life support in the shop just a week or so ago.

WAFB. says it is happening and showed it on radar.

Probably last update at 10am of strengthening before landfall. Do we get a Cat 5 at this update??

It isn't one. A couple mets tweeted it could be. I was convinced it was the minimal shear working on the eyewall a bit. That seems to be what it was.

Question- This is the first storm we've rode out that is in this category. We have several gigantic pine trees near our fence. They are in our neighbors yard.
Can pine trees damage a roof if they fall, my husband thinks just the tops come off and it's fine. I am in jeopardy of it falling on our car. I am in BR (70817)
Do not stay in your house if trees are nearby. Ground is saturated and will be even more so by the time winds get here. Trees will not just snap at the top (which can happen and would be worse than your husband is thinking) but fall from the root system.
Yours may not fall, but why risk it?

Are they concerned with the levees failing or after Katrina did they pretty much make that impossible to happen again?

The second ring is way too wide to try to be an eye wall. That's just a strong rain band

The eye has closed back off. I think some folks jumped the gun on it.
