Grand Isle: Jefferson Parish says 28 people have chosen to stay on the island as Ida nears. The only road off the island is already flooding.

Buffalo isn't as small a market as is made out.

Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Southern Ontario, probably even the southern tier of NY state and northern PA.

Much in the same way New Orleans is deemed small despite having a foothold on virtually all of LA, MS and the Gulf Coast all the east to Pensacola.

The OP also missed what looks like expensive ray bans.

Feeding the capitalists while also rebelling against them.

Target stays, the movie theater stays and the church stays. Seems the rest goes. Interesting given the Clearview development also underway. Like Clearview they seem to be going the mixed use route, Evolve or die I guess.....

Downtown Memphis is one of the most dangerous places to be in the United States, especially if you are white and look like you have a little money in your pocket.

I know Nola is dangerous but I don't feel that same fear that I feel when in Memphis.

One hundred percent agree.

I've only ever felt unsafe three times I can recall in this country, although I'd say I'm quite street smart and sensible and generally don't find myself in vulnerable situations due to getting lost or whatever or sticking out like a sore thumb with an expensive camera or the like. I've grown up and virtually always lived in urban areas. You know when the weeds appear in the cracks in the sidewalks, the street lights are out and the business change into churches chicken, bail bonds and boost mobile, you're in the hood. Not rocket science.

Once at a subway station in NYC in the middle of summer, unbelievably not too far from Times Square, where I was with two Australian friends and I'm certain we were about to get mugged by three black guys with hoods up staring at us until a train arrived. We were probably stood far enough away on the platform that it bought us enough time for them to dwell until a train came.

Once in St. Louis when I arrived there in Downtown at about 5pm, when you'd expect to see a lot of traffic and commuters, but the place was a ghost town, other than the bus/train terminal which was just full of panhandlers and suspect people. My girlfriend who as soon as she steps outside her middle class suburbia becomes terrified demanded we get an uber to the hotel despite it only being like a 5 minute walk.

The other was in Downtown Memphis, a beautiful Saturday afternoon in August about four years ago. The Cardinals affiliate was actually at home that evening as well (best ballpark in the minor leagues too IMO), so once you got around to the ballpark/beale it was a bit better, but me and my buddy parked the car not far up from there, and the place was very eery and a lot of rough looking people hanging around.

Downtown Memphis is shite. They have the bass pro and then Beale/Fedex Forum/Baseball Stadium (which was as heavily policed as the FQ) and thats it. A lot of it is deserted. The French Quarter/CBD feels a lot more vibrant, and to be fair Memphis has a better corporate climate and nicer suburbs than New Orleans, so I'm not just here to put it down.

I have been to some other US cities Downtown though, which have a lot of the social problems of the likes of New Orleans, St Louis and Memphis, such as Louisville, Indy, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Kansas City and felt fine. If anything I just thought some of them were a little boring if I had a complaint to make.

Being in the hood or sketchy areas is one thing and borders on stupidity if you go into these areas and act surprised, but there is no way anyone should feel unsafe in the center of any city in this country.

Usually means you're in an area of upper middle class soyboys. You know, the type who sits on their macbook in starbucks cursing the big bad world, despite having a rather privileged upbringing themselves.

Its always been a black mark on Metairie that a bastion of tackiness like Hooters has such a prime location on Vets.

Nah I meant Birmingham to New Orleans was once a SW route.

Memphis now I think about it was probably last served from MSY before Delta de-hubbed it, probably before like 2012/13 then.
