I don't see a situation where Baton Rouge would ever have to evacuate for a hurricane. It's just too far inland and these storms are so much weaker by the time they get here.

Weather channel just said most models are backing off on projected intensity levels BUT still saying CAT 4 at landfal
they’re saying that because it’s still the official forecast from the NHC. But I won’t be surprised if at some point today they back off of the Cat 4 prediction. The intensity models don’t seem to be showing any 4’s anymore. We’ll see.

I’m driving north in Interstate 65 headed toward Cullman, AL and I’ve already seen convoys of power trucks headed south.

My GF does Hurricane work for UF.

Yeah, and climate scientists said the world is ending by 2025 and epidemiologists predicted 2 million dead in the USA. Everyone is an exaggerating attention whore in their field of knowledge.

Again, we went through Katrina and I know of zero homes that were badly damaged that way. In my neighborhood, of over a hundred homes, I don’t think there was a broken window from flying objects. There was some roof damage, but even that was just missing shingles. And this was Brockenbraugh Ct in Old Metairie, with tons of big trees.

There were a few houses that had trees come down on them, but none in which an occupant would have been hurt. You should spend the most intense period - 2 hours, or so - in a downstairs hallway just to be safe. The risk of wind blown debris damaging houses, while possible, is way overblown (pun noticed).

While true on the south shore it's a totally different issue on the northshore. I lived in Old Mandeville for Katrina and it was a warzone after Katrina. Glad I evacuated or I would have been dead. Pine, oak and gum trees destroyed my house. It was the same scene all through old Mandeville.

Mayor Broome has never led anyone astray. Definitely wait until she advises before making any decisions.

Anyone know when what time the bad weather will start? I’m supposed to go to work at 5am tomorrow and worried about getting on the road

Can someone talk me off the ledge here??

We live right outside of New Orleans and my wife has to evacuate with the residents that she takes care of.. but the thing that blows my mind is that they’re taking all of them to fricking Walker... that’s basically right where it’s supposed to hit...

Normally I wouldn’t care and I’d be willing to ride it out and see what happens but we have a 2 year old and a 7 year old to consider

Am I freakin out about nothing or is it gonna be as bad as I think??

Any input will be considered

exactly. Evacuation orders are only ever issued for flooding events, or for those who live in mobile homes. You will never see a widespread evac order for Baton Rouge for a hurricane or any weather event for that matter. It doesn’t matter how high the winds are predicted as the saying goes: “run from water, hide from wind”.

Perfect chart of the Weather Channel power hierarchy, and where you don’t want to be when the tip of the spear shows up.

Destroya should have put in a mandatory evacuation yesterday for New Orleans. No contraflow plan in order. The interstates are jammed right now. What is it with liberals and not knowing how to devise a plan?
