I was in the exact same boat. Sent my girls to dry ground and I’m staying behind in BR.

What about St Bernard inside levee protection area? What kind of winds are we looking at? For sure we’re losing power but can we make it through this with minimal damage to homes?

Again, we went through Katrina and I know of zero homes that were badly damaged that way. In my neighborhood, of over a hundred homes, I don’t think there was a broken window from flying objects. There was some roof damage, but even that was just missing shingles. And this was Brockenbraugh Ct in Old Metairie, with tons of big trees.

There were a few houses that had trees come down on them, but none in which an occupant would have been hurt. You should spend the most intense period - 2 hours, or so - in a downstairs hallway just to be safe. The risk of wind blown debris damaging houses, while possible, is way overblown (pun noticed).

Difference with this one is that this area will get the east side and have much stronger winds. Katrina you guys got the weaker west side.

I'm assuming the lower band are constant winds and the max sustained is if a squall hits for a specified period of time. And of course gusts are gusts

IIRC max sustained winds are winds sustained over a one minute interval.

SIAP...the Hurricane IDA Intensity models seem to be consolidating at a mid category 3. The prior publication had some cat 4 model outliers. None this time.

Just looking for a sliver of good news.

Plenty of gas in NBR if you want to make the drive. I filled up at the Racetrac by the airport if anyone is looking

Are BR officials even recommending evacuation? Weather channel seems to have backed off on wind projections. Saying 70-90 mph. Still high but better than 110mph they said originally.

My GF does Hurricane work for UF.

She is saying very simply..get the frick out now. This is going to be very bad. Do not understand why evacuations aren’t mandatory because this storm could be horrific.

Found the problem. Women don't know shite about hurricanes, even when it's their career path.

Yeah we did nothing but cookouts and card games since family all lives in the same area. Was a lot of fun during the day, at night we had a generator to run some box fans as the adults got the window units

the dotted line gusts?
the dotted lines are called out as gusts on other graphs

I take this to mean BR will see Cat 2 gusts and just over Tropical Storm/just under Cat 1 sustained winds. In the middle of the night.

That’s significant. I think BR will see a lot of damage and be out without power for awhile.
