Huh. Very interesting. All the completed trail projects have been within city proper of BR then.

The BREC priorities don't change because of St. George. BREC is parish wide, and everyone who lives in STG will continue to pay the millages that BREC receives.

We should have a study to determine if the study is required

I'm seriously considering starting an official movement for this and giving TD.com all the credit. What would it be named, though?

Do it. This is a fantastic idea.

Perhaps St George would be better off addressing basic issues of governance before embarking on projects that would have been rejected by St G thumpers were it thought up BREC in the first place.

I thought you people hated parks and nice shite that taxes pay for. You know, things that great cities have and are accepted by the people of those cities but rejected in wholesale by people in La in general.

They'd probably just put a trail exit at Harrells Ferry Rd. that would be useless and back up foot traffic a few hundred yards.

Question, we know who are in all the run offs for public office and we are almost ready for early voting. I'm thinking the ballots have been readied and we're going to have the second primary. So what's taking so long to certify the SG election?

They tried that yesterday...but our mayor/president and her personal attorney refuse to move forward.

“There was definitely a combative tone from Ms. Pierson, which was unfortunate,” Hudson says. “We were hoping to get a broader discussion about the delivery of some of the parish-wide services, to start laying a framework for a transition district bill. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to that part of the conversation.”

Pierson does not disagree she was combative, saying, “what a shock,” when asked about Hudson’s comments.

Yeah sounds awesome just hope it wouldn’t become a haven for littering and drug use and homeless people “camping”.

We'll see just how many BREC projects get completed or maintained in St. George from here on out.

Good idea, but St. George needs to establish itself first, form and ISD and do a really good job with the ISD with having minimal property tax increases.

This is exactly why we need to pounce on it now while people are excited and they still have political capital.

I'm not a pro-St. George person but I appreciate that it brought out imagination of what could be. Once they/we revert back to "normal" it'll be too late.

There's an insane amount of money coming into the Baton Rouge area for drainage and flood mitigation projects. BREC has expressed an interest in trails and interconnections.

The center of my trail plan just so happens to be the confluence of the Amite and Comite rivers. The proven reliability of the USACE's levee system makes this arguably the most significant water feature in the parish as far as floods go. The railroad tracks that run right through it makes it an important piece for BREC's trail system plan. There's good spots for landings at Morgan rd, Florida Blvd, i-12, and Harrell's Ferry Rd. Later expansions would take it to Magnolia Beach Rd and Bayou Manchac.

A lot of this money is still up in the air and hasn't even been dedicated to specific projects yet. Frenchtown Rd Park absolutely should be a major part of it.

I heard at one of the StG meetings that the reason StG connected with Central is because when the school district is formed, it needs to be contiguous with the Central School District so they can share resources.

I'm over here in the Free State of LP, so I'm just watching all this from afar.

That said, what's up with the sliver of St.G. boundary that juts all the way north, past I-12, 190, and the RR tracks? There's got to be a reason for that, huh?

That's factually incorrect. Legally, the boundaries of the city have nothing to do with the school district. They're separate in almost every way. The boundaries of the school district will NOT be the same as the city. It's questionable if it even happens at all. Certainly not within the next few years.

Fun fact: The city of Central's boundaries follow the Comite River exactly, but the school district darts over the river to pick up Watts Rd so that Norman Browning's family member could get appointed to the school board by the governor. It raised some eyebrows but people were too excited about the new school system to care.
