It's a stupid spinoff.

No

Abortions should not be legal and the death penalty should be a last resort with extreme scrutiny.

They are not one and the same. So, no.

I'm taking this as a "would you allow legal abortion if the death penalty were enforced within 24 hours" hypothetical.

No, abortion is a moral stain on our current era and should be eradicated. We should execute way more criminals than we do now, but its not a moral stain on society if they receive life in prison vs death.

Generally I agree but i think there's currently too much scrutiny. There's no reason that it should take 30+ years of appeals or whatever they do to execute somebody. If they're found guilty, then appeal and found guilty again then it should be done. I think 5 years +/- should be the max for the appeal process. Hell, there's been times where the person admits to the crime, pleads guilty and doesn't appeal and it still takes 10 years to execute them and that's absolutely ridiculous.

Eta: But I have no idea what the OP is implying with "legal abortion if death penalty was enforced within 24 hours of verdict?".

Abortions have nothing to do with the death penalty. Also, what's the significance of 24 hours?

What is you talmbout OP?

It's a spin off from a thread asking if Abortions were to be made illegal but the caveat was so was the death penalty would you want it? or there abouts.

To your point, Currently death penalty cases do not have 30+ years of scrutiny, The likely have very little which is why you hear of people being proven innocent by dna evidence or some other nefarious actions by the prosecution which lead to their conviction.

Currently we have 30+ years of delay, but given the almost incompetency of our jury trial system maybe that isn't a bad thing.

So innocent babies have to die in order to impose a quick death penalty? Seriously?

That's just doesn't seem logical to me.

I've seen crime shows where the perp said he waited for the victim to cross State lines to a State that didn't have the death penalty before taking action.

Just about every murderer who gets caught does everything in their power to avoid the death penalty.

They will hold onto information of where victims are located and information on other unsolved murders just to use as bargaining chips to avoid the death penalty.

Plus, we don't really enforce the death penalty very often or very timely so you could almost argue that we don't have a death penalty to dissuade people from committing murder.

It's just common sense that it makes a difference on all the murder victims whose murderer was a person who had gotten out of jail AFTER being convicted of a previous murder but given a light sentence.

Plus, you have no way of taking into account people who didn't commit a murder because they didn't want to chance getting a death sentence, because you can't count or prove a negative.

Remember when they made a movie about technology that would tell you who was a criminal before they committed crime and they called it the minority report

Idk man - one of those things I struggle with is can you be pro-life and pro death penalty?

I know it’s super nuanced but still.
