A friend of mine just took his wife”s last name after getting married a few weeks ago. I asked him about it, and he said he just didn’t care. They are an Older couple (50ish) and she is established in her industry, so I can see keeping her name on social media for networking. It may be an outdated tradition, but I don’t see what the benefit is for getting rid of it.

Not unheard of in Europe if the wife's family is more socially prominent.

ETA more often it's just the children taking the mother's name.

I could see myself doing it if I didn't know my family, disowned, just had a real shite family, etc. Especially if her family was really cool and took me in as a family member.

No point continuing a name that has no meaning to you.

I know a guy who took his wife’s last name and nobody could figure out why.

He got arrested for molesting a juvenile at the WalkOns in Denham and it came out that he had done it before and he was hiding from that.

His dad ended up being the guy who killed the daycare owner in Denham who was the estranged girlfriend.

Turns out the entire family is a steaming pile of shite and should be eradicated from the planet.

Moral of the story is never trust a guy who takes his wife’s last name

Never known one myself, but my friend knew a guy whose dad was a deadbeat and abandoned the family when he was little. So the guy took his wife's name as a middle finger to his dad.

It’s classier than a “I <3 pegging” bumper sticker, but accomplished the same goal.

The law won't let him take her boyfriend's last name.

I have a friend whose last name is Dickhut. When they had kids, he gave them the mom’s last name, because, yeah. His dad was pissed, and he had to explain all the shite he got growing up and didn’t want that for his kids.

But he kept the Dickhut name for himself

I can see the wife just keeping her last name, and husband keeping his. Happens a lot for established female professionals. I would never take her name though. I would have no problem if she didn’t take mine.
