Should have seen it pre Katrina before all the a-holes from NewO moved there. Or even better in the early 90s and before.

enjoy visiting Covington and my daughter lives there. It’s nice to go somewhere and not be overran with trash. Of course, I usually go on Sundays so don’t have to fight traffic nightmares as she does. She hates where she lives bc of traffic. Things are clean, too.

Like everything else that’s nice, it’s coming whether you like it or not.

Once upon a time when driving across the bridge to enter Covington you could glimpse the magnificent estate of Clem Kelly.

Was this the bridge coming from Claiborne Hill or Madisonville?

I remember heading in on Hwy 21 there was a billboard for Foxhole on the left and the CHS Football State champions sign and the population sign (7,153?) on that side too but woods on both sides of the waterway.

From Claiborne Hill, they had the two gas stations owned by the Holden brothers (Pete and ?) and then Riverside Hotel on the downtown side. There was a CHS sign on that side too and the overpass there had a spray painted “CHS ‘64” on it.

Real estate has taken an unbelievable jump over the last 5-10 years. Lots near city limits are around 200k mark. So a complete build you’re looking at 700k base. It’s unrealistic and unsustainable.

Lot prices for 4K-7k sq ft lots in the Madisonville and Mandeville are equally outrageous. Or you could buy a cookie cutter house in the 300k-500k range. It’s silly.

The mayor lived in a 800 square foot house on Tyler. Ernest Cooper was a good ol’ baw who had a velvet touch when it came to public service. Many a night we put him in a cab after he would leave the Green Onion bar and wander over to the old Spanish villa. The one with the mosaic tile swimming pool straight out of some Hollywood mansion from the 1930’s. It must have been something in its prime and held a ghost or two for Mayor Cooper.

What's wrong with this? I'd much rather smell this than cigarettes

What's wrong with it? Weed smokers smell like dog shite. That's what is wrong with it. Yeah, cigarettes stink too, but weed smell is one of the nastiest smells on earth.

There are some children of various ages and genders at 1:30 doing a gesture that appears to be holding a foul smelling finger up to your nose and then thumbs down, as if the finger smells offensive for some reason.
Interesting culture.
