True statement for the past 50 years. Not so true in the last 3. Cov PD did basic police work for past couple of years. Over 120 guns off the streets and the bad guys who had the guns.

I often wondered what took so long. That crew was always on twitter saying exactly what crimes they were committing

Covington has always been full of people who worked for the big oil companies when they still had headquarters on Poydras. Unless you were there you can’t understand the difference in population then vs now. The Bourbons lived in Covington. You know, that French family with a liquor named after them. Laura Frerer graduated from Covington High and became editor of Women’s Health Magazine. The public schools spent more on gifted snd talented than special ed. It was a different time and place that the elites insured would never be replicated again.

That’s a shame. Hopefully, they keep schools good. Back in the day G&T was something to be proud of. Now we dumb everyone down or teachers are stuck with kids that need help and shouldn’t be integrated so can’t teach, and worry more about pronouns vs education.

And her late sister wrote the most famous episode of Dawson's Creek or something. Really smart, pretty girls.

The city of Covington lies between two rivers … hence we call it the "island." Those of us who live in Covington proper really don't want to "leave the island." As the mayor says, "If I can't get there on my golf cart I don't want to go."

Question - so you are the mayor of Covington proper only.. correct? You are doing a great job btw!!!!

I hated living in Baton Rouge. I hated working in Hammond. I hated that whole area. I never really spent much time in Covington until recently and you are absolutely correct. I could live there. It was great around Christmas in that little downtown area.

Lee Harvey Oswald attended elementary school there.

Pete Maravich retired there.

Well, correct … mayor of Covington proper. But I'm the defacto mayor of the "community of Covington." It's not like if you live outside the city limits city staff won't try to assist you … but it's not our jurisdiction.

Thanks for the nice words, much appreciated

Chimes, Abita Roasting, and more. I guess AR is amazing and in Abita so doesn’t count for Covington proper, though. When Acme was there, their charbroiled oysters blew Metairie Acme away. LaCarettas. There was a good pizza place on Mandeville lakefront. And one in Abita. But I don’t live there to know a lot of others. Just these when I visit.

Time flies. Seems like yesterday Fat Man was trying to sell polo shirts with the first four notes of LSU pregame embroidered on the left upper chest. Now he’s the mayor of Covington.

One day I got stuck in traffic and went though what people considered Covington.
I could see buying an old house in the down town area for sale, fix it up, and make it a cafe specialize in breakfast and lunch. Then on the weekends do a brunch to evening meals with live unique bands or artist. Seems like a pretty quiet place to live except if you want to leave to go shopping.

Trying? Perlis sold a ton, my website shipped across the country and I licensed the notes to LSU for t-shirts.

What's the deal with the old Chevron station on Boston and S. Jefferson remaining closed for so many years?

I heard through 3rd or 4th parties that is was bad lease to own deal. But seems the city should have pushed something to get it operating as that's a lot of sales tax lost.
