This will settle for like 12 million
Even with the reported shite Spectrum did, that is excessive.

People will say it's excessive, but I read up on this and Spectrum was HORRIBLE. They basically didn't do any background checks on technicians and they deleted surveillance video that showed the technician going in and out of their yard multiple times on the day of the murder.

Oh, and apparently tried to forge some document in an effort to push the case out of court and into private arbitration.

If this is all true then I say let em burn.

I can confirm it is true.

That is the recipe for such a run away verdict. Frick Spectrum. They won’t pay that much, but it will settle for hundreds of millions.

Charter is going to have to get $375 million in compensatory damages reduced.

Pretty sure Texas has some caps on punitive damages too.

There are also federal constitutional limits on punitive damages.

I believe the jury was sending a message to Spectrum and any other company that sends service workers into peoples homes to know who you are dealing with and not endanger the lives of innocent people.

That’s exactly what the intent of punitive damage awards are for, to send a message. Typical that these assclowns of the OT would side with fricking spectrum, one of the worst companies on the planet

I’m not saying there is no responsibility or culpability but honestly I don’t understand these runaway verdicts. It’s like every schmuck on a jury has this deep-seated hope something bad will happen to them so they will in turn win the jury verdict ‘lotto’ too.

IDK how they can hold the company responsible

The company didn’t conduct a reasonable background check and ignored several signs that the employee was trouble.

It’s easy to find them liable.

Bruh, they could be the cable version of Electronic Arts and there is zero justification for a ruling worth 9% of the company’s valuation.

The jury obviously got pissed off that the company sent the dead woman a bill after the murder, and included a charge for the in home visit by the murderer.

When the company starts letting criminals in your home because they want to be woke, they're responsible for letting criminals in your home. It's pretty simple.

And then trying to cover it up after makes it even worse. frick em

That amount will never be paid out, it sends a message with the intent to change the behavior of corporations so it doesn’t happen again. Would it really make a damn difference if the amount was 750 million vs 7.3 billion? Neither of those amounts would be paid, it’s about public optics and it’s clearly doing it’s job by the way y’all are reacting

You might have a different opinion if it were your mother or loved one that was murdered.

Nah frick them. It's that high b/c of how egregious their actions were. Not only did they stop doing background checks, they kept sending this guy out even though there had been many complaints about him, he told his coworkers he was losing it, and then they tried to cover up evidence from the police. Spectrum can eat shite on this.

Not based on just those facts. Plaintiffs had to prove more than those facts.

Yall are crazy, they are liable for their worker. If i drove my spectrum vehicle drunk and killed people, they would be liable. Obviously i would be the one in jail if i survived,
but i have no money. You go after who has the money.

Applicable to corporations? Are the limits dollar amounts or percent of the whole?

No gotchas in here, honestly curious. The ongoing battle of corporations as "citizens" is pretty intriguing but I don't keep up with it other than the landmark cases.

Does it really send that much of a message when everyone knows the system will reduce it to an amount Spectrum won't feel? It's one of the most hated companies in the world already. I just think by the time you get to this stage, and I'm sure Spectrum knew they were going to get hit for months or years now, the changes have already been implemented, etc.
