Speaking of going into jet engines: The worker sucked into an engine in Montgomery

I was flying through another airport when news of this spread in 2022 and spoke to some fellow travelers who had just arrived from there. I couldn’t help myself and wondered about the competency level of the worker in Montgomery.
The deceased, Courtney Edwards.

The accident ramp agent’s behavior at the time of the accident demonstrated that her judgment was deficient. Given her identified medical and toxicological cognitive risk factors, the ramp agent’s deficient judgment was likely due to cognitive impairment. The extent to which individual cognitive risk factors, such as the ramp agent’s multiple sclerosis and cannabis use, contributed to this impairment could not be determined based on the available evidence.” NTSB final report page 3 of 15

The report also notes that Edwards took part in a safety “huddle” 10 minutes before the fatal incident, which addressed safety around the engine. Just prior to the deadly incident, Edwards was seen on video going to the airplane’s tail to put down a safety cone at which point she stumbled after approaching the jet-blast area behind the engine. She also failed to place a safety cone at the wingtip, which was part of her responsibilities. The video then showed Edwards walking directly in front of the engine while there were signals to indicate dangers were still active.
The deceased, Courtney Edwards.

For people who are out there that don’t know what a jet engine is, it’s a gas turbine. The suction portion brings you into the compressor portion. Which is weirdly bladed in order to compress air. Whatever fragments of body are shoved through that are ejected into the turbine area which is bladed as well in many stages and acts as an expander. So your remains go through that portion and fly far far away.
All this happens in fragments of a second.
Ultimately it would cause catastrophic damage to the gas turbine and would shut down immediately.

TLDR: the worker sucked into the engine in Montgomery had just attended a safety briefing 10 mins prior to dying, but was likely high from marijuana when she was killed.

I tried to avoid getting sucked into a jet engine but then I got high…

Almost all passenger jets now use high bypass engines. This means most of the air does not go through the compressor stage. Very possible she entered the bottom of the engine and was ejecred through the back without going through the compressor.
With that said, the results would be pretty much the same though perhaps easier to clean.

It's what you get when these airline contractors pay $12 per hour, without a a serious training program. What an individual smokes on their own time, doesn't matter to me, whether its medicinal or not.

Moral:
Parts of an airport ground crew’s work really suck.
