I think we're done with the hurricane season along the northern Gulf Coast as these cold fronts have brought water temps down from the mid-upper 80s into the lower 70s.

Not true. Temps have dropped the water temp but not that much yet.

The water temp off the mouth of the river is still 80 degrees and enough to maintain a storm.

Not looking for a hurricane but if we don't rustle up some rain soon here in Alabama...

**Side note is I hope every yellow jacket nest is flooded and they all drown.

Got my arse whipped last week by those little bastards!

The GFS doesn’t seem to be doing anything with this system yet. I think the CMC has it headed towards Central America.

Up north of you I finished out September with 4.81" of rain, which is almost an inch above normal. Almost half of that came on one day, though.

ETA: Not a drop in the 384 hours of the GFS right now, either.

The tops of my cypress trees are turning red. We are done with storms in the northern gulf for 2022.

So what happens when insurers no longer insure homes on the golf coast? Will there be a mass exodus?

This is already taking place in most gulf states below I-10

Rates increasing from 2,000 to 4,000 going up as high as 15,000

It becomes undoable and the only choice is to self-insure (dont buy insurance) or move elsewhere where rates arent that high.

One other way it is already being done is requirements of the flood insurance availability to areas and municipalities to mitigate flood for all existing properties/buildings when renovation or modification is made at 50% of existing valuation or more. New levels of floodproofing must be undertaken for the entire building - frequently a hardship to the owner who must them abandon or live with the existing building. Fix your building and you are forced to make it new for all intents and purposes. Exodus follows all of these

So, I’ve said this in another thread. Is everyone supposed to move to Omaha? But wait, there are tornadoes there. Last year when I was evacuated from Ida I was watching the news and places in NYC were flooded because of the remnants of Ida. Are they supposed to move as well?

Again, even less than 10 years ago none of us would have had any idea about this sort of thing
