Terafab is a planned massive, vertically integrated semiconductor manufacturing complex in Grimes County, Texas, jointly developed by SpaceX and Tesla alongside partners like Intel. The first phase carries an initial investment of $16.8 billion, aiming to produce over one terawatt of AI computing capacity annually.
Location and Scale
Site: Planned for Grimes County, Texas (near the former Gibbons Creek Power Plant site outside College Station).
Size: Expected to span a colossal 100 million square feet across a roughly 2,300-acre footprint.
Jobs: Projected to create more than 3,000 direct high-tech and operations jobs.
Core Purpose and Products
Under One Roof: Consolidates chip design, advanced logic and memory fabrication, packaging, and testing into a single continuous pipeline.
Target Applications: Builds specialized high-performance processors to power Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robots and Cybercabs, as well as high-power compute requirements for space-based data centers.
Goal: Designed to bridge the massive gap between current global semiconductor manufacturing output and the multi-terawatt AI compute demands projected by Musk's companies.

Now compare the water use with a golf course. Then STFU over some thing few people know about. Meanwhile Westinghouse and GE have filed with the government to produce small nuke plants on location. Give it time to catch up.

The site is a decommissioned power plant with cooling lake. The lake is 2,770 surface acres in size and holds 26,171 acre-feet of water. Published plans call for use of this as the water source instead of groundwater.

BTW, this will be a short drive for the new rare earth processing plant they are building in Vinton, LA.

Outside of a couple companies using underwater servers to control temperatures, I have yet to hear a plan to use desalination.
It’s not that it’s too expensive but why do it when there is land with fresh water to purchase

The water scare is such a forced concern for data centers and plants like this. It's a silly media scare tactic like the black mold scare, where now people think even a little mildew is black mold that will kill you.

I don’t think you are understanding the scale of this place. I have no doubt there are plans to consume power and water from nearby sources. I’m not against the project at all. It just something that came to mind because of how large it is. Calm down.
