Water issues such as not enough in that area or such as neighbors bitched to the local governing body?

I can understand scrapping data centers in West TX over water concerns but the only ones I have seen scrapped around the South have been due to local governments and people rallying to stop them, screaming about water.

I wouldn’t be shocked if this place had its own water cooling system for recycling. We don’t need the big towers anymore that are synonymous with nuclear.

The US owns stock in Intel, which you could argue they were picking winners and losers if Intel wasn't already Intel.

That being said, being able to manufacture chips here, even for things like Tesla products, is a national security concern.

Imagine losing a war because China takes over Taiwan and we can't get chips for rockets.

I know that's not what this factory will be for now, but I imagine once the process is in place, it could be in a crunch.

Or perhaps we should be concerned about both China and the water usage.

Yes. Riverbend and many other places went with the larger footprint, “shorter” systems that perform the same function. That was part of the deal with the state. It couldn’t been seen from hwy 61. But even those are antiquated now. Towers are still most practical and cheapest though. It’s why Vogtle 3 and 4 went with towers. Once the steam is condensed back to water, separating it using the lattice out in the open air is the most efficient way to do it.

ETA: I know you’re in construction. The easiest way to imagine how efficient separating water droplets can cool water is a pool. Put one small water spout to circulate the water preferably one with small droplets, almost a spray. Solid streams are bad. It’ll lower the water temp 10° easily.

this is painted as private venture which call me cynical, i have my doubts the taxpayer isn't ponying up for it.

That $16 bill will turn into 30+ and needed for "national security reasons"
