For some local perspective on the size of this at 100 million square feet...
100 million square feet = 3.587 square miles
The square root of 3.587 is ~1.8939
The extent of a square of 1.8939 miles in the vicinity of the LSU campus extends from the Miss. River to University Lake and from Chimes St. to Brightside.
Roughly double the size of the entire LSU campus.

Outside of the cooling for chip manufacturing, the thermal engineering for climate control and A/C of 100M sq ft is going to be an interesting work of engineering.

I cant give you my client numbers due to NDAs but you can find multiple studies over the last 5 years for closed loop systems in the public domain. Make sure the studies you read are specifically for closed loop. It doesn't matter if it is water to chip cooling or traditional air cooled white spaces. The closed loop water consumption is similar for both because that cooling loops to the spaces have always been closed loop. Closed loop refers to the portion upstream from that loop.

Closed loop reduces water consumption for hyperscale data centers by 70%. You can go find the water consumption for open-loop hyperscale data centers and reduce that by 70%. See if you can find one hyperscale facility anywhere near 5,000 gallons of total facility consumption.

Please keep in mind all the data you see on minimal water consumption is because they dont count water returned to a local water region as "consumed." For example, if one gallon is brought in from the local water supply and then sent to the waste water treatment facility, these studies you are referencing dont count that as actual water consumption. They call that net zero water usage. The problem, as mentioned earlier, is this still requires a wastewater treatment plant large enough to handle the flow of wastewater coming out of a closed-loop data center.
Due to chemicals uses, leaks, pH balancing, etc, there is still a lot of water coming from the sanitary water utility and then passed through to the wastewater treatment facility. People can claim that is zero usage since no water is lost but that PR marketing at its finest.

correct, i was incorrect on the 5k figure for hyperscale, i misread the numbers as that was for a small 10MW and it was an estimate based off the tech that will be coming out
but in under 10 years all the data centers will be air cooled or direct to chip or full immersion closed loop which use way less water
but they better figure out the nuke reactors quickly to power everything.

Yeah worldwide and counting mostly salt water that can't be used for cooling most plants. Texas often has water wells and in many places they can get dry and water is an issue there. . Now I'm sure Musk has a plan for that but let's not act like there aren't water concerns in some places. Now us, Louisiana we have near infinite fresh washer. Must of east Texas does too. But some parts of Texas that water comes out nasty and brown when it hasn't rained.

umm BREC courses in baton rouge uses up to ~900k per day. Depends on the time of the year but almost every golf courses uses 100k per day
