Something I’ve identified about race relations in the United States

The Sopranos provides a hyper-accurate depiction of a contemporary family in New Jersey. It’s clear race relations in the North is much worse than down here in the South.
Why are they projecting race related issues onto us Southerners when they are clearly the more dysfunctional?

Because they believe what their TV tells them......................................propaganda works.

You didn't already know this from your time in the northeast while attending Princeton?

They can’t look in that mirror.

A really weak premise for a troll. The Sopranos debuted over 20 years old & has little to do with anyone's contemporary culture.
Serves you right when Yankees treat you like you're an extra from The Beverly Hillbillies.

Post civil war propaganda. The north painted the southern states as dumb racist savages to mitigate sympathy for those areas and people that had been decimated by the war.

Brandishing confederate memorabilia publicly for so long didn’t help.

I, for one, revel in the stereotypes about Southerners. In my travels across the country, my heavy North Alabama accent has made me stand out - and Yankees, along with Westerners, tend to assume the worst. There's nothing as satisfying as making someone look dumb for assuming that you are dumb.
"I grew up on one of two paved roads in the state. I remember getting running water at 8 and electricity when I was 13."
"Wow! That kind of poverty must have been unimaginable."
"It really was. Somehow my grandfather managed to program the computers for the Saturn missions without ever having read a book."

For the most part there’s a higher Black population percentage in the South than there is in the North. So the South has a higher chance of an incident happen that can be seen as racist.
The North is just as racist as the South, maybe even more so. But there aren’t as many chances of incidents happening between Blacks and Whites. So they think they are less racist that the South.

Has he gone back and renamed his "Master" branch in source control yet? Hit me up in Teams if you run into problems.

Generally, Southerners (of all races) tend to have group racism - ie stereotypes about other groups, but they're also more likely, I think, to look at an individual and think, "they're not like other X."
Meanwhile, places with less racial diversity are more likely to spout platitudes about how we are all the same, racism is an unforgivable sin, etc., while they panic or try to display their wokeness whenever they have to deal with someone not of their color.

I think race relations might be defined much more by economic strata than geography.
Posted on 7/2/20 at 11:29 am to OleWarSkuleAlum
Your analogy is stupid but the premise is correct.. the largest voices are northeastern liberal elites who have self segregated by race and class for ions.. it’s easy to view racial injustice from atop without walking with those you want to advocate for while diregarding the general distaste between lower social circles in regards to ethnicity. Spike Lee while tainted from one side but has been highlighting this discord since Do the right thing.

When I visit family in the Midwest and west the populations tend to self segregate. At least in what I could tell. Since the towns were overwhelmingly white, and minority’s already kept to themselves, I found that the white population (my family included) tended to be just flat out ignorant on race relations. However they were also by far more vocal on the issue which was strange due to their lack of real world interaction with other races.

Boston isn’t racist. They just hate everyone not from Boston. Hell, they hate everyone not from their part of Boston. They’re just flat out assholes. There’s a reason I call Massachusetts Mass of Two Shits. They suck as people.
