While talking about local businesses that actually deserve our support, Abita Roasting Company has one of the best breakfasts in the area and locally roasted coffee to boot.

Native Americans had the land first. Let's tear it all down and give it all back to them.

Yeah, people ain't going out there unless they live there. She is f'd. It hasn't even started to hurt yet. She will start to feel it soon though.

Maybe “educate” her as to why her comments are wrong and insensitive

She is way beyond educating. Either go eat there or not but don’t waste your time trying to enlighten her.

Lot of virtue signaling in this thread here

Which one, current or former (Villere)?
Villere is the current Mayor of Mandeville, not Covington. His term is up, but the scamdemic extended the election date.
Mike Cooper is the former Mayor of Covington, who is now the Parish President.

“It’s the President’s personal Facebook page. It’s not like he is writing his views on the White House page.”
Liberals would never let that happen.

What debacle are you talking about?
The following:
IIRC
A school wanted the city to close the street between it and a local grocery (and donate the street to the school?). The store stated that the street is the site of their delivery location. The school (evidently under pressure from some protective parents concerned about safety) then brought the resolution before the city council. I was told that the school was led to believe that a yes vote was pretty much a given. It was opposed (ironically by the Independent on the council) and I am not sure of where things stand.
Here is some other info though...the family that owns the store have a long-standing association with the school. As I understand it, the land where that portion of the school sits was donated to them by the family that owns the store. A city council member (my rep no less) was associated with a letter that was “less than cordial.” The defense was something along the lines of, “I was just being overly protective.” As a resident, I wasn’t impressed by the situation concerning my council rep. or the deflecting and dismissive response concerning the letter. Basically, at least to me, the letter illustrated that there was a conflict of interest. To alleviate some concerns, supposedly the family offered to assist the school with construction costs associated with changes to the building plan (as I understand it, the goal was to improve security while still allowing for the street to remain open). Lastly, some local attorneys threatened to sue if the street were closed / (donated?)...pretty much a slam dunk.
I get having concerns about safety in this day and age, but the manner in which this supposedly occurred was a debacle imho (not as inflammatory as the Del Porto situation, but it was still a mess locally). To be fair, the school leadership evidently has been quite reasonable in its re-examination of the situation. This seems to have been a case of miscommunication, a group of parents acting in an “overzealous “ manner, or both.
TLDR...
School safety
+ politics
= an unacceptable situation (to me).
ETA - I feel that I am being quite kind concerning my rep‘s letter. This person comes with a good reputation so the whole thing was quite surprising the way it went down.
Additionally, in spite of “lettergate,” our current mayor (fat man) is still doing a fine job...especially given our current situation(s).

That’s a myth that people don’t want to believe or admit. The north gets away with being this anti slavery establishment. But in reality they had slaves just like the South did
What is amazing to me is these Yankee "I'm appalled at the Southerners whose great-great-great grandparents owned slaves" in the 1800's probably are driving German cars and are just fine with anything German, although the Germans KILLED millions of Jews in the 1900's.

Acquistapace has given way more than they should in this debacle. Like 100000x more than they should have.

My read on her is that she hires blacks over whites to promote skin color Over qualification and donates a lot of her time and money to the local underprivileged community/.
Is that not the case?

I see nothing wrong with this, in spite of her moment of stupidity on FB. It is her time and money. Besides, it seems quite admirable.
As for in-house hiring practices etc., if true, it seems like a shitty thing to do, but ultimately it is her business.
Daponch seems to have more insight.

I have not been following this story, but that loading dock behind the store has been there since before even I attended St. Peter’s 20 years ago. Never can I recall any problems related to security and the relationship between the store and school has always been, to my knowledge, nothing short of excellent. The Acquistapaces are good people. I would hardly believe that they would be uncivil or inflexible in handling this. Sounds like a case of a helicopter parent flying too close to the sun.

With that said, I’m on the fence about this one. I can’t stand cancel culture and while everyone has the right to boycott her restaurant, are we (those who boycott) doing exactly what the left is doing to Brees, etc.? Why can’t we slow down and have a discussion? Maybe “educate” her as to why her comments are wrong and insensitive. At some point this country forgot how to debate. Just because someone has a different opinion doesn’t mean they are wrong or right or racist.
In a perfect world yes... but the reality is that people in this area really don’t like this type of attitude. It just doesn’t play well at all - ppl here are a special kind of stubborn
