We often rode our bikes around and explored dumpsters. I vividly recall finding a bunch of horse feed sacks from a nearby farm. When I was a kid, some of the older men at our hunting camp had what they called "the library". It was a large assortment of Hustler, Penthouse, Cheri, etc. As a mischievous young buck I snuck a few out, brought them home then hid them in an old barn on a neighbor's property.

My theory is some husband/dad decided to throw out the magazines but didn’t want to put them in with the regular trash. These were the days before Hefty Sinch Sack bags and your trash was usually loose or in a brown paper grocery bag. The chance of being humiliated by someone finding your porn in the trash was real. The next best solution was to walk into the woods next to the house and dump it.
In high school when my parents were gone for the day, I’d drink beer in the backyard, fill the empties with water, and chuck them as far as I could into the woods. Same principle.

Back in the day -- We had a Boy Scout paper drive and the proceeds were stored in the loft of an old barn. Amazing how many subscribers Playboy and similar publications had in that little town. We really hit the jackpot and we had a new form of recreation to occupy our time.
