I mainly use it as a means of communication with friends and family that live far away. I don't spend much time there

Have you been to the Poli Board?

Ohhh, so it's people on facebook that are members of the media, that makes sense.

My sixty year old mother (no pics, trust me) posted on Facebook yesterday that if someone disagrees with her posts, they are not to comment... they should just "keep scrolling".

It is insane.

It's given a voice and attention to some that really shouldn't have any.

An old family friend shared a picture of the Tropic Thunder cast saying "this is what real heroes look like. Share if you agree". When someone pointed out that it was Ben Stiller and Jack Black, she called him a communist and basically told him to frick off. She's like 80 years old. Lol

How do you convince others of your self worth and condemn them for their ill advised life choices?

The only difference is that social media gave regular arse people the same power that the news media had for decades

Another major difference is that broadcast media has to have credibility for their product to survive against the competition. The 3 majors back in the 80's and before were competing against each other and all they had was their integrity.

I'm today's climate, with all of the "news sources" out there and the fact that page views is how a website's profitability is measured, honesty and credibility take a back back back seat to sensationalism and outrage inducing journalism.

I've had to break from FB. It started out well as a way to keep in touch but has gotten so twisted and grown into this monster of demands, meaningless info and self-aggrandizement. I really shows how stupid and narcissistic many people are.

I was discussing social media with my 10 yr old son the other day, and could not for the life of me think of one benefit it offers to society. Dawned on me how much money Zucherberg has made off of such a worthless idea.
