I went clean because hardly anybody around me drinks anything. I'm not going to drink alone.

It's cheaper, I feel better, sleep better...what's not to like?

The question was when did you realize that you had a problem.

I looked up and realized I had very few friends left, my family wanted little to do with me and most of all, I hated myself.

Process was sparked by a DUI and a month later, I was in treatment. Over 5 years sober now.

I woke up lost on the train so many times! Especially early mornings head back from yokahama and tokyo. Missed my stop quite a few times. Also woke up in some random chics' places a dew times also. ...the struggle! The worst was blacking out in tiajuana. shite's not cool.

I only drink because I enjoy the company of drunks, and they don't like sober people

I think just getting older, I don't drink as much anymore. Plus I've really started concentrating on a healthy lifestyle in general. Every once in a while, I think about getting a six pack after a shitty day at work, but then I think about how much it's going to suck tomorrow when I go for a run and I just don't do it. I do however still have the occasional weekend at the camp, or a wedding or something where I'm going to drink. I have to consciously remember that I am a douchebag when I get drunk and I will hate all of the shite I did the next morning. That tends to keep me within myself, but once or twice a year the beast still rears it's head.

Being so hammered that you think you are sober is not unusual. But no one is passing a sobriety test

Long before I quit. Awful thing about addiction is normally you have a problem long before you realize it.

When it started affecting my marriage, I realized I had a problem.

There is a lot of information about true alcoholism, but barely any at all about binge drinking. They are different things, and get lumped together because it's easy. Almost all of the advice you're gonna get is from people who drink every day, or people who have dealt with others who drink every day, and all of the solutions pertain to drinking every day. Binge drinking is more of an impulse control issue.

I've always had impulse control problems, and getting fricked up is one of them from time to time.

To reduce that, you've got to plan ahead to outsmart your drunk self. Planning is the key.

I have been sooo drunk that I forgot I was capable of sitting down, and was continuously walking because every time I tried to stand still I fell down.
This was not I thought I was sober, this was I felt sober.

Not sober here..been drunk since I had to put my dog down. Been almost 2 weeks, I know I am in for some shite when I decide to hang it up. Not DT's but I'm sure I will be "jolting" in bed for a few days. gonna start tonight, then move on and hopefully not touch that poison to my lips ever again. Yes I'm weak..

Did you try drinking more alcohol to sober you up?

Yeah, I am not sure I would call a binge drinker an alcoholic, more of a problem drinker. Alcoholics have to drink the make the sickness go away. It's as close to normal as they'll feel.
