re: So, you're an atheist. Does the term "Merry Christmas" bother you?

Christians don't own Christmas. I've been an atheist my entire life and I've got a bigass tree up and presents for my family.
Santa - not Christian
Snow - not Christian
Presents - not Christian
Families getting together - not exclusively Christian
Being nice and kind to everyone - not exclusively Christian
I get to rejoice in the spirit of merriment and joy, eat the best food of the year, and someone will buy me a PS4? Why would I be upset about that?

Great ornaments! I couldnt care less about merry Christmas. It's sorta like 4th of July to me but with more consumerist hype. And considering the Christmas celebration is really a pagan celebration kind of humors me. I don't know why I don't ever have a tree......

Not at all, I wouldn't call myself atheist but I don't think any religious sect have it right.

I doubt it bothers most atheists but obviously you're only going to hear from the ones it does bother because people don't make a big deal about the things that don't bother them.
Exactly.... If I truly don't believe then I shouldn't have any feelings about it at all.

Santa - not Christian
Based on SAINT Nicholas.
Christmas is also just a shortened word for "Christ's mass".
I mean, I have no problem with people that aren't christian celebrating Christmas, but don't act like it's not a Christian holiday. Do you do the same with Easter?
Merry Christmas!

Im not an atheist.

They won't turn down the Christmas bonus though..quote:!
thats a real zinger
I’m a pretty dedicated, incredibly flawed, borderline crazy Born Again Christian and I wouldn’t turn down a Ramadan, Hanukkah, humanism, or Festivus bonus if my company offered it to me unless they required me to denounce my personal beliefs. People give gifts (i.e. a bonus) for their own reasons’s, not yours.

No I am not a vagina, I will even say it back

Not in the least. I tell other people Merry Chtistmas, buy gifts for others and feast on smoked turkey for dinner.

Doesn't bother me at all. Christmas is a tradition about the winter solstice. Got nothing to do with the baby Jesus. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

I would not call myself atheist or agnostic. Perhaps just too lazy for religion. But no, Merry Christmas is just a term that is positive, like saying goodbye.
Won't care if someone says Happy Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan, or Festivus either.

What kind of company actually calls it a "Christmas bonus"?

About the only thing St Nicholas about the current Santa Claus is Santa having the nickname St Nick. Everything else about the original was dropped, his gifts were charity to people who needed it, not a terrible parenting tool. Lots of Santa is based off other pagan things and good ole Coca Cola wanting to sell more soda.
It’s only a Christian holiday because the Christians went on a rampage to take out and force convert every other religion that celebrated the winter solstice before it. Jesus wasn’t even born around this time, the Church just stuck it during the winter solstice so forced converted people could still celebrate their former religious holidays under the guise of Christmas.
Have you ever bothered to look up the origin of the word Easter?

I love Christmas and even love when my kids do Christmas programs at school. I don’t know why. I did all that stuff and it didn’t ruin my life. It is just a great time of year.

I would feel really silly if it bothered me. I went to church with my inlaws this morning. We'll open presents this evening. We went to other family celebrations yesterday.
I enjoy it. I just enjoy it for different reasons than Christians do.
