It's not like people can roll back the mileage on a vehicle with an electric drill.

Just because gas cars are getting screwed doesn't mean we need to screw electric cars. Maybe figure out how we can get rid of gas taxes instead of making more taxes.

But obviously there are issues related to keeping track of that which would have to be figured out.
Don’t worry, NSA I mean Big Brother will help

Mileage taxes.
We have 2 hybrids,I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a mileage taxes imposed on them also.

How much of the gas tax should go towards combating climate change?

None

Seems fair. EV owners get rebates for purchasing, even though every manufacturer is making them now.

Elect better. No one in charge now has any interest in:
1) lowering taxes of any kind
2) lowering spending
3) ending waste, fraud, and abuse

In metro Atlanta, you have to get an emissions sticker each year, and they note the mileage. I don't own an EV, but that would be an easy way to levy an annual tax.

My problem with it is, the more gas vehicle numbers go down the percentage of gas tax will go up.
It’s almost like it’s incentivizing behavior. Like many other taxes.

We need less.
We need less.

What free charging?

Well the taxes pay for highway infrastructure, the switch to EVs is not going to make that expense go away, and at the rate they want all electric, higher taxes on fuels is not a viable long term solution. They are going to hoodwink everyone into EVs with all the shiny rebates, cheap charging, etc., then when we switch to an electric economy they will bend everyone over just like they do now. They are not going to let that money go, no matter what they tell you. Govt loves using the bait and switch game to get what they want.

Yeah the government isn't going to just say, oh well, we'll just start taking in less money for roads

We need more infrastructure and development in battery and charging tech before I’m willing to adopt it personally.

Yeah I have no interest in owning an EV at this time. If there is a point in my life where they are better in every way to an ICE vehicle I may consider it. We didn't have to pay people to switch from horses to automobiles.

They do need some kind of fair road taxes for EV's. It's ridiculous they get rebates to buy them, then free charging
I know for a fact that you have been corrected on your "free charging" bullshite on numerous occasions. Do you get off on lying about it?

When you go in for inspections they'll record the mileage and send you a bill, yeah. That's pretty much how it'll work.
The majority of our programmers at Beckwith Electric were former automobile programmers. There will be a tracking program in the EV chips and a Department in the IRS that sends a mileage tax bill just before you file your taxes each year. That and the increase in taxes at the Utility will gig you guys even more. Night will eliminate the down peak period due to charging Tesla's in the garage. That and the glow of the Tesla fires inside the garages will be a real treat .
