They do need some kind of fair road taxes for EV's. It's ridiculous they get rebates to buy them, then free charging.

Good luck getting that passed half the frickers on here who will bitch if someone tries to monitor mileage to enact some kind of tax like this.

Well, since they are not required to pay taxes at this time, they are not cheating the system. That was an attempt at sarcasm. frick the left! Just asking the question.

Ohhh, it’s coming, as well as much bigger electric bills for everyone.

When there are enough EVs on the road, the grid won’t have a night-time off-peak 8-12 hour window: Higher fuel costs and more equipment maintenance fees passed down to all consumers, not just EV users.

Just add an additional flat tax to the annual registration.

The way they just assume that thet HAVE to collect more taxes for things instead of cutting in other areas is infuriating.

Taxes for the purpose of maintaining public road is one we should all fully support, whether it is a consumption of energy required for motion, flat tax on vehicle, or mileage tax. I think the EV question will need to be addressed sooner rather than later on the federal level.

I support a mileage tax but I honestly don't see a suitable method to do this without monthly or yearly reports. Monthly might be better, kinda like another utility bill, but tracking it on the federal level will be more difficult.

Yep, then they will say we are using to much electricity and start punishing us for that and gasoline.

The tax system should not be used to encourage or discourage behavior whether its for owning a home or being married.

So an EV owner would be required to report the number of miles they drive for the year to the federal government? And presumably to the state government as well if the state has a similar tax? Is this a yearly tax or a monthly tax?

My guess is quarterly like some other taxes.

People exploiting loopholes in the tax code? Big shock there. In the world of tax loophole exploitation, this has to be a nothing burger.

Mileage tax.

There is no way that they will pass a mileage tax solely for EVs. This will hit all cars and be in addition to the gas tax. I'd rather that the EVs just use the roads for free.

Poor people that drive gas guzzlers are paying more tax than the rich driving EV’s.

But I thought a certain party was all about “fair share.”

It is absolutely hilarious watching them argue against taxes, that's for sure. The sick fricks truly don't believe in anything sincerely.

Now to address the OPs question, you can believe that the more common electric cars become the more ways the government is going to find to get into the owners pockets. Anyone who doesn't think so is in denial
