Had a patient once that survived hanging. Wife found him in garage. Suffered anoxic injury and lost most motor control. Wife brought him home and shortly after decided she couldn’t care for him. Went to nursing home and died about a year later. I’m convinced he probably pouched some meds and ended it himself. He was smart enough and determined enough.

Hanging would be a miserable way to go
If a person is truly serious and not just seeking attention, they jump from a height or use a gun.

dunno... some become success speakers, a la Emma Benoit... some find new reasons to actually live... some try again... it's a mixed bag

Do we arrest people for attempting suicide?
They can be picked up by the police and put in a hospital on a 72 hour hold. They do not face criminal prosecution

I was a 19yo Corpsman working in the ICU back in the day. Had a Marine try to hang himself and didn't succeed. His head and tongue were swollen and purple. His parents and his young wife were crying sitting beside him as his tongue hung out of his mouth. He ended up recovering but I'll never forget the pain his family suffered. The image of that changed me forever.

They have half a mind to try again, or keep hanging around

Hopefully the father takes a moment to validate years worth of incompetence complaints.

If you don’t use a gun you live life realizing how selfish suicide would’ve been & you learn to ride the waves of life.
Selfish for who? What person is so evil that they wish another person would have to keep living their life that is so miserable or painful the only way they see out is death. Any person wanting another person to keep living in that much emotional, psychological, mental or physical pain, suffering and misery needs to rethink who is being selfish.
If someone thinks, “my life and the pain I am in is so bad the only way I see out is death to relieve me from this suffering” then that person is living the worst kind of existence. If another person thinks they would be selfish to end it, who is really being selfish?
I don’t wish suicide on anyone, whether it is the person committing it, attempting it or the loved one of someone that has committed suicide. But the suggestion that it is selfish is some weird and very antiquated thinking.

I recently met a girl with half a face. She wore a mask to hide it. When I inquired about her “accident” she quickly corrected me and said it was on purpose and not an accident. 28 yrs ago her husband committed suicide and she tried a week later pulling the shotgun away just before and blew half her face off. She was at peace and still living her best life

It frequently destroys the lives of survivors, often completely innocent kids.
It is rhe definition of selfish

My wife in an NP for a reconstructive plastic surgeon and they have to consult for failed suicide attempts occasionally. Most of the time the patients are basically on life support which makes me wonder why they consult so early. Most die within a few days. One patient, the doctor put his finger into the exit wound and got brain matter on his finger.

I knew a lady that was accused of trying (overdose). Husband filed for divorce, and since the judge agreed that she tried, she lost all rights to even see her kids except with her mom's presence. She had argued that it was an accidental overdose, but the judge ruled it wasn't despite any previous mental issues, etc. Destroyed her.
