So what happens after 2-3 weeks of everyone quarantining?

We all just go back out and go about our normal business and the virus has magically lost the ability to exist and spread?
I’m confused as to how this enables us to “flatten the curve”. Won’t it just delay when the huge spike comes?

Well I'm letting my kids play in the neighborhood, so I'm doing my part to not flatten it too much!

They are delaying so they can manufacture and procure more medical supplies, equipment like ventilators, etc.

Have you seen a model of what the president is trying to accomplish at all? Maybe start there.

The idea is that there will never be a huge spike. But at least the curve will remain constant.

let me help you with the simple truth, nearly the whole population of earth will get this flu with only minor discomfort. but it will most likely kill a large portion of the population over the age of 70 and how many of those who survive depends on how well they quarantine and sanitize their environments.
“flatten the curve” is a fancy way for the gubment to say prolong the suffering so it lasts way longer all in the name of slowing the deaths to a point hospitals can have them hooked to respirators when they die. in other words time for those in the hospital to die and make room for the new victims to take their beds
all this is is a way to manage the death rates so they avoid the optics of people dying in the streets because hospitals are full
trump is trying to give people reassurance and hope but the truth is this thing cannot be controlled. but he cant say that or it would spread irrational fear and panic. truth is, before this is over many old people you know may die
