Has 180 days to claim the prize or the money goes back to the states it came from. It has been over 3 weeks since the drawing

Probably just getting his/her affairs in order before the craziness hits, even though in SC they get to remain anonymous

What I think but I am not sure I would wait this long.

You know any lawyer would drop all his work to handle that kind of cash. Things move quickly for something like that Im sure

I could not imagine walking around with a "secret" billion and a half in my pocket and not being about to talk about it.

I wouldn’t be able to sleep. I’d be too worried about something happening to the ticket, no matter how secure it was.

I was away on a multi day fishing tournament when the drawing happened. Yes, I had some tickets with me. I was thinking, "What do I do if I win?" Do I stay and fish then go home since nothing can really happen and I worked all year to get to that tournament or just get in the truck and go home?

What do I do with the ticked while Im out o the boat fishing? Decisions decisions.

Exactly. Claim the funds anonymously and then work the details out. There are safer places for $700 million than a paper ticket.

I sent my wife to collect it 3 weeks ago. She hasn’t made it back yet.

First off don’t claim the money as a person, set up llc’s 501c3 etc.... that way when you do claim it you can run it through a business, get write offs. If you want to give $500k to your mama you can do it the right way.
You need to create operating agreements, succession planning, etc....
it’s not as easy as you think it is.

I'd be figuring out every way to make sure it was anonymous.

Uhhh this is common with huge winners.

There’s a lot to do before you claim that amount with lawyers, accountants, etc.

They will wait until day 179.

This is not uncommon, especially with a HUGE amount like this. If the winner has ANY sense at all, they hired a DAMN good lawyer to set up an LLC, trust, etc. If you win that kind of money then just stroll into the lotto office the next day, your life is going to hell with the quickness.

I'd guess this winner is totally financially illiterate and is trying to figure out who to hire, thus the delay. The funds should have been claimed the next day, anonymously.

Setting up a trust. Smart. I wouldn't either till I had my anonymity confirmed.

You have to claim the winnings as an individual, you can't do it as a an LLC or 501(c)(3) - lol. Any estate planning you do after that can wait. LLCs, trusts, all of that happens down the road. Get the cash.
