Yeah but making it look good ain’t easy.

That;s because the painting actually is the easy part.
The prep work is the PITA and also the biggest part of why a finished paint job looks good.

I loathe painting. Hire it out whenever possible.

I hate it too but them painters want longshoremen salaries.

(No pics.) Instead of hiring a professional who have knocked it out in a few days, we have been on an adventure that is now at two weeks and counting. I had to do manly stuff like remove light fixtures and repair some sheetrock, but she has done everything else. Everything is in chaos. It is taking forever, but, to her credit, it might look halfway decent when she is done.
just breathe deep, inhale the fumes, and let all your troubles Slippy away.

My wife occasionally gets similar DIY home improvement ideas. I’ve learned it’s best to just let her do her thing.

my work buddy was bragging that he got an "outrageous" quote from a painter to paint the inside of his for like 13k so he and his wife did it themselves. Said it was so easy other than being a bit messy that he wouldn't pay a painter anything over 2k for the same job.

I went to his place one day and was looking at the trimwork and it was covered in paint runs, puddles, trash boogers and terrible cut-ins. Just a shitshow of a job. If anyone ever wanted to make it right it would be a tremendous amount of work just undoing it.

But he saved money and is happy with it so actually he wins. Not like his house is going to fall down because of a sloppy paint job and like I said, he doesn't gaf anyway apparently.

I’m surprised his under butler, the footmen, and the hall boys could not knockout the dining room paint job quickly.

Just keeping the sterling silver tableware for the table for that sized room would take an underfootman a 40 hour week. And you cannot entertain at a moment's notice if your silver is tarnished, your china less that spotless and your crystal totally dust free.

It's also that time of year to change out slipcovers, window coverings and bring out the woolen carpets.

At least she didn't ask you to put up new wallpaper in the kitchen and bathrooms.

When I was a lad, I helped by dad repaper the walls in our house - and by 'help' I mean that I handed stuff to him when he asked for it.

But it looked pretty easy to a 10 yr old kid, so fifteen years later when My wife wanted to replace the paper in our first home I told her I could do it. Of all the failures in my life, nothing compares with that fiasco. (that is if you neglect my effort to do some brickwork repair on our next house)

Why is it taking you 2 weeks and counting to paint a dining room? Pick a day off, do the prep work, and knock that shite out in a day or two at the most.

How is it taking you several weeks to paint a dining room? Why are you removing light fixtures? Tape around it and move on, repairing sheetrock doesn't take long. Even with a few repairs this can easily be knocked out in a weekend.

My mom painted her laundry room. The color looked nothing like the color on the swàtch she was given. It looked like vomit. I repainted it a different color. Hired the neighbor's kid to help me move the appliances. Got it done in a day but it is a small room.

The actual painting is easy, its the prepping that sucks. Moving heavy furniture back and forth, removing fixtures, setting up equipment, etc. then putting everything back is why people say it sucks.

I used to paint everything myself. Now time has become so valuable to me, and I hire a retired carpenter who is very detailed. Worth every penny.

This is something someone who hasn’t done major painting jobs would say. I’ve painted several houses, interior and exterior. Painting sucks!

About 30 years ago, my lovely wife (no pics) attempted to paint a half bath.

She is wonderfully effective in many aspects and areas but that task was not amongst her skill set.

She has not since touched a paint brush.

Good luck to you, I hope it works out.

In my case the remediation was easily more onerous than had I initially painted it.

Damn, I want to be around your place for the holidays if you have sheetrock to repair in the dining room.
