What is she interested in? People are motivated in different ways, for me the hard work was a result of me figuring out what I wanted to do.
I will also say that sometimes this attitude is more a symptom of depression than it is of not caring. Your daughter happy? Active? Hope things workout.

My daughter makes straight As, has since she's been in school. Just started 5th grade.
My other kid really struggles with school and like your kid doesn't really GAF, he's only 6 though so I'm hoping it's because he's a boy and doesn't grasp purpose of school yet.
He's a very intelligent little boy, but school so far just isn't his thing it appears.

Uh, I think I found the root cause. Not being a dick, but if this is your wife's attitude, then it's no wonder your daughter feels the way she does. Your wife should speak to a professional about those thoughts.

What's the point? The point is to teach your daughter that her education is very important. Explain to her that you do these things because you love her and that you just want her to realize if she isn't willing to work hard, then she will not be able to have the things she wants in life.
I don't know if this is the case or not, but I see parents who get frustrated with their kid(s) which causes a communication breakdown. Tell her that she might not think so now, but there will come a time in her life when she will either thank you for pushing her or wishing she would have listened to yall. Are you aware of who she is hanging out with? shite goes down in junior high.. Ask her what she plans to do after HS and make sure she realizes that she can't frick around in school if whatever she wants to do, is what she does want to do.
