So, my wife and I had to discipline our daughter for not putting forth effort in school

We're having a rough time getting her to understand why school and education is important. She hates it and every single day the most simple tasks that should only take 30-45 minutes to do takes her all damn night because of her just not giving a damn. Well, tonight we stripped her of all her privileges. TV, cell phone (which doesn't have full service and she only uses it for Wi-Fi calling and face timing friends), ipad, legos, toys, electric scooter, bicycle, hanging out with friends, etc. all that shite is gone until she proves to us that she can put forth some damn effort in school. I've been telling my wife for weeks we needed to do this and tonight was her breaking point.

I'm sharing all this with the OT because after we took away all my daughter privileges, my wife made the comment "What's the point of all this." I asked her, "What do you mean? She 12 years old and needs to start learning responsibility and it's better for her to learn it now versus when she's older and we aren't able to influence her as much."

My wife continued, "What's the point of all of it? What's the point of pushing her? What's the point of going to work? What's the point of having stuff? What's the point striving for more and more? What's the point of life when you're just going to die anyway? So, what's the point?"

I couldn't answer her so I brought it here to the OT.
