So many tower cranes in Germany

I’ve googled and can’t find an answer. Been in Germany since March. There are tower cranes literally everywhere. In every single town you pass through, large and small there are always tower cranes all over the place. Why?

They tend to build more vertical buildings with smaller footprints than many places in the US. And they have less room to maneuver, that is to spread out their construction staging areas. Even a renovation of a single apartment in a tower block would probably require a crane to get materials into the apartment.

When I see posts like this it always makes me think of the person behind the username and wonder what it’s like to go though life being that stupid.
