I never got the smart meter and I pay the monthly charge on my bill. I haven’t seen any large increases as some have. My brother was fighting a 4K commercial building utility bill that was normally $400 or less after they got the new meter installed. I don’t understand why the new meter is increasing prices so much for some?

How have you avoided getting a new meter. They put mine on and my usage went up drastically immediately.

They were going around my neighborhood installing them and I happened to be home. I told them I didn’t want a new meter. Meter installer informed me I would be charged $15/mo if I didn’t get it, and was good with that. I wanted to wait and see and I’m glad I did. I was just lucky to be home I guess.

Entergy owning nuclear power plants in Vicksburg and St Francisville should mitigate the surge in oil and gas price excuse
Entergy actually owns 4 in the service area.

And that’s not exactly how that works. It definitely helps though. Natty gas plants run when demand calls for them. Nuke plants run 24/7/365. Some co gen plants run quite a lot. Nuclear accounts for about 26% of the power produced in LA.

Fuel adjustment is 100% based off of volatility in fuel prices. You’ve had a very volatile year for energy prices. No one can debate that. Regulator sets prices based upon expected fuel costs, and when there are big changes during peak demand, you get hit with a surcharge. This isn’t some big conspiracy, it’s done the same way all over the country and the world.

Man I would have taken $15 a month all day to avoid this increase. That's a steal

I just happened to read the crap letter they sent that it was coming, did a little research, then sent them back the letter telling them I did not want it 3 times to make sure they got it. It has not changed much other than the $15.00 per month. I think it has to do with price volatility but also usage during peak usage times and the meter being able to multiply cost for usage during peak usage times. By the way, yes F entergy!

You people are a bunch of idiots. The total bill is $202 and was from May.

Cox would raise your bill out of the blue as well, after agreeing to a contract.

It does, to some extent, but those are baseload plants and Entergy still has to bring peak load plants online when demand spikes. Fuel for those is often bought closer to spot prices since future demand on peak plants can't be predicted nearly as well as the demand on baseload plants. So fuel contracts for peakers tend to be shorter term and closer to spot prices than the prices one can get buying large amounts of fuel far ahead of time on futures contracts to meet known the well-defined demand of a baseload oil or gas fired plant.

In my case mine apparently malfunctioned for a while, then I just stopped getting bills. I called over and over and was told I just simply didn't have a balance and enjoy the free electricity...then I get popped with a $2000 bill...now I get phone calls during the week from a tech needing to get into my backyard to check the meter, when I refuse to leave work he just says he'll try back...when I call entergy to ask why they need to check their awesome first class state of the art meter they don't know why

I'd be on the phone to my public service commissioner to straighten that crap out!

It’s a meter, man. It measures your rate of consumption of electricity. It also happens to be a lot more accurate than the 40 year old analog meter you used to have.

If you’ve got a 2500sf house and your electric bill in the summer has been around $100/month, you haven’t been paying the correct amount for electrical usage for a long time.

Did you officially opt out? I opted out two years ago and haven't heard a word about it since. I also haven't received that alleged $15 fee that I would get for not switching meters.
